You've gotta love the FA Cup, at least while we're still in it.

Just thinking back (down all these long years) about the FA Cup matches of yesteryear. Though we didn't win it, I think my favourite was the 4-4 draw with Northampton on a cold December Friday night back in '86. Richard Cadette scored a wonderful goal that night turning two defenders inside out en route to putting us into a lead which we couldn't hold unfortunately ... Northampton were a very good up and at 'em team back then under the stewardship of Graham Carr, now Chief Scout at Newcastle. We lost the replay 3-2, but that game was a fine testament to the drama of the FA Cup.

Please take me back down Memory Lane with some of your stories from yesteryear. You know you want to.

My first ever game was the 1st round against Halesowen in '86, I also went to the Northampton game but cant remember too much about it.

Ah Rich - that game against Halesowen was a special one for Super Roy. I think that he was born there and played for them. He also scored the fourth goal against Northampton.

AP Leamington (away) 1975 i think, always sticks in my mind, not for the action on the pitch but off it,Christ talk about tactical withdrawal after the game.

I remember some FA Cup games fondly.

Good memory wise, Leicester City away @ Filbert Street was my first Blues away game, Woking away was fun with a late couple of goals as a lot of Blues invaded the pitch, Tottenham was a good day out despite a 3-1 loss.

On bad memories, the Chelsea replay hurt as Revell should have put us 2 up just before half time, we did not deserve to lose that 4-1. Scarborough away was still one of the worst feelings in football for me, plus there has been many drab non contests.

Still my favourite Blues memory...........Peter Clarke and Chelsea away will take some beating.

Everton away for me 1992. The noise from 5000 blues fans, the wall of balloons at the start and if only Ansah and Benjamin had put those 2 chances away! Southall was in inspired form that day.......

Was at Aylesbury when we lost to a Warren Donald goal. Hated it and even more so when I went to school the following Monday and was ribbed for the result.
Collymore's two at Huddersfield stand out for much better reasons!

More info required please, Swiss!

Blimey, just remember hordes of Coventry and Villa fans in an unsegregrated ground looking for bovver,it was everyman or boy in my case that day for himself,i remember the coaches taking a battering, as well as the brothers grim who when i got back to the coach were taking punches from APL fans on the coach, then when normality was restored and we was leaving our coach got bricked under Police escort, truely was a scary day and just reminds me how lucky we are nowadays.

And for green rep,who scored their goa,l Ochh.

For me it will be the year we beat Kings Lynn 9-0 then Brentwood 10-1, followed by winning 2-0 way at Swindon 68/69. I think this was the year Swiindon won the League Cup as a 3rd Div team, so they were a v good team. The Swindon game stands out for me, one of my first away games. Cant say I remember too much about the game itself, apart from Chico Hamilton scoring one of the goals. What I remember most was the incredibly long drive home, in fog I think. My Dad was driving, I was 11 yrs old, and became desperate for a leak somewhere around London. And for some reason he wouldn't stop to let me go until we got back to Southend!

He wouldn't drive to Mansfield for the next round, but we went up and stood outside the Southend Standard offices where the latest score was posted on the window every few minutes - recollection was that there was a crowd of people there. Who needed the internet for score updates, eh! Lost 2-1 and Mansfield went on to beat West Ham in the 5th Round.

And then I believe we went on to mess up promotion that year from a seemingly unassailable position. At some point soon after, my father announced with certainty that the club owners were corrupt, the team were rubbish/played terrible football and he stopped going.

How times change...

I was sitting with Wino while Southend were struggling pitifully at home to Scarborough. To lighten the mood, Wino asked me "Who's the worst - Drewe or Tony Richards?"

That very moment, Broughton was presented with a one-on-one opportunity - and promptly sent the ball towards a corner of the South Upper.

I didn't say a word in reply to Wino, just nodded towards the pitch and grinned. Ah, the magic of the cup.

Glenville Donegal - just looked it up. Said 'Donnington' as I couldn't believe that it would be 'Donegal'!

FA Cup away at Southampton at the Dell where we were 1-0 down before the confetti and baloons had even hit the ground and someone dressed as Popeye got evicted for mooning - always sticks in my mind.
