Just seen (in El Pais)that Alvin Lee has died aged 68.He was a marvellous guitarist.Remember seeing him live in Ten Years Later(or was it the Alvin Lee Band)with Mick Taylor in Montpellier back in 81.RIP.

Top Man - he started me playing in 1970 or so. A good bloke too, my brother interviewed him at the Roots Hall festival.

Love a bit of Alvin and the Chipmunks

Barna yes, that was the gig. It wasn't TYA as I recall but an Alvin Lee Band. Happy to be corrected though.

I'm sure you're right (and thanks for the pm).Tbh I wasn't really a big TYA (or Alvin Lee)fan at that time (that came later).
My main reason for being at the Roots Hall Festival was because my then girlfriend (Margrethe, a Danish lass) was a huge Fairport fan.I did enjoy seeing Mickey Jupp's Legends though.

I found out who this guy is and it turns out he wasn't the famous one in his family - that was actually his daughter:

The heavens did open at one point, IIRC, however since we were near my spiritual home (aka The West Stand) I don't seem to remember it being much of a problem.

I was talking about Woodstock. On an Alvin Lee note, I did see Slade perform 'Hear Me Calling' ten years after in 1979.
