The G1 on T-Mobile has faster download speeds than the IPhone. That is partly to do with the phone, and partly to do with T-Mobile's superior 3G network.

I was actually looking at the HTC Magic on Vodafone.
I refuse to buy an iPhone when I can get something similar (and access to loads of apps) as an upgrade.

HTC do good phones - have the Kaiser (on Vodafone sold as the v1615) and it's good as gold.
