Another One For The Memory Box Palace At Home 1976??3

another night similar the wolves game, we played palace at home on a tuesday night i think 76 or 77 and it was the return to roots hall of peter spud taylor the crowd was a now unbelievable 17,000. such was the interest in people wanting to see him and also the number of palace fans that had come down. My motther took my brother and me and my next door neighbour, it was her first and last southend match!!!

All I can remember is that taylor played us of the park, and the palace came on at full time, and charged across the north bank, and then went up roots hall avenue, and smashed into the car show rooms that happened to be on corner of west street and roots hall avenue, I remember we got pinned to the wall by the ob, as the palace fans, smashed in to the showrooms and drove away with a car!!! happy memories

Just out of interest, and a totally honest question, why are stories of away fans smashing up commercial properties in the proximity of the ground "happy memories"? Genuinely intrigued...

Just TMWLT trying to be controversial as ever. Of course the antics of these so called fans nearly killed the game off. Happy memeories indeed.

That'd be 1974.

Happy memories? Friday night football with big crowds - although that crowd stood out; we never topped 10,000 for another League match that season.

Very true, the only difference now is the greedy premiership is going to kill the game off, same **** different package

there are 3 games i would love to hear people's memories from. All 3 games i was at but was only 7,8 and 9 so have very vague memories of. The 3 being Sheff Wed at home in 1979 when i remember bricks being thrown by weds fans over the wall of the south bank, lincoln at home 80/1 loads of trouble in the south bank if memory serves me right and last burnley 81/2 when they won the league at rh and were all on the pitch.

Just to correct you here Southend fans (Wickford Skinheads) chucked bricks over the South Stand wall onto the Sheff Wednesday fans in South stand....

Yes, well I could go into some detail concerning the Lincoln game and remember a fair bit about the Sheffield Wednesday carryings on but I'm very rusty about the Burnley shindig. But I'm afraid I wont. Don't want to be seen as being controversial. Oh no not me.

o right remember seeing them running up the small alleyway between the houses and the old south stand. I think this was the first bit of trouble i'd seen at a game.

Saw Plaace vs. Chelsea on ESPN sports gold the other night (perhaps one for former Blues Forum as Garner and Taylor were playing for the respective clubs) loads of trouble at that game (5th Round of the Cup) and I remember that well, and the trouble on the South Bank at that game.

I can clearly now see Arthur Orchard rallying the Shrimpers troops for one final onslaught on the Eagles Hoolies. ;)
