A wee birdie told me a little rumour and been backed up on fb = facebook, the above meaning Lyle Della-verde and kf = Kane Ferdinand, SORRY, im back unforth to computer

Can we go back to the days before twitter and facebook when we only found out the news from those exciting SMS texts from the club?

No blame on the club but it is a joke really. As soon as anyone gets decent we loose them. Only Kane has ever really progressed to first team regular in the past five years we have lost Iorfa, Ngoo, keeper that went to Fulham, medi, Orunga. Get bit ****ed off with it to be honest.

Especial LDV who by all accounts is meant to be the most exciting prospect to ever come out of our youth system. If he stayed til Jan he could probably break through into the matchday squads and maybe earn us a nice sum. No doubt we'll now be buggered by the big boys and get a pittance as a "development fee."

I assume we negotiate sell ons tho? tend to agree tho, doesnt seem much point unless we get at least a season out of them!

its all ok saying we have sell on clauses, but how many dont progress enough to comand a fee in the future? They tend to get released when their contract expires so we get nothing. It does make you wonder if its worth a club our size to have a youth set up.

I have to say this is getting annoying, all we hear about is how exciting our youth team but if they all bugger off before coming through to the first team is does seem a bit pointless. I know we get a fair bit of money from selling them but the youth system itself costs money. Not sure why he couldn't try and prove himself with us from January onwards and then move on, he'll still be very young and will in some ways have payed back the faith shown in him from a young age.

I agree its frustrating but what else can the club do. Lets be honest how many youths dream of playing for Southend? So to attract the best youths they have to know that if they come here and perform well they could be rewarded with a move to a bigger club. At the moment we are able to sign youngsters that have not quite made it at premiership clubs. If we get a reputation for holding players back we will struggle to sign anyone of any quality.

shock horror skint lower league club has to sell decent players to try and survive, come on peeps if we are offered cold hard cash (half decent sum) we are hardly in a position to say no. In an ideal world yes we would hang on to them.

Should we play him tomorrow night to boost the fee?

If he was on a pro contract with us then yes. But until he signs the pro contract in Jan 2012, we don't really hold any cards with regards to the fee. Not like we would if he was on a pro deal, anyway. We'll just be fleeced.

the Trust discussed the finances of the youth setup with TB, its in the liason minutes on the Trust part of the forum (only 27 viewings since 3.48 this afternoon so I am guessing that most people don't really want to know what the club have to say to supporters)

Exactly. And let's face it, if we can make some money so that the system (with FA grants etc) funds itself, or even makes a few quid it's worth continuing because we get the odd one like Kane who does break through...

That said, it is frustrating, but there really isn't much the club can do...
