Just wondered if anyone had any fond memories of the last time we appointed a northern manager.

Little had at least played for us.

I'd argue that Scotland is fairly northern, but I get your point.
I can remember much worse managers and much worse squads in our recent history. We're not in an "it can't get any worse" situation, so whilst we may get lucky, we should be careful what we wish for.

Plymouth and Southampton are definitely southern.

As opposed to:

Hartlepool, Halifax, Bolton, Blackpool as a player
Bolton, Derby, Hull and Preston as a manager.

Yeah, that first game was a sun kissed (IIRC) day away against Orient.

A Neil Campbell double in a 3-0 win, I remember a pal having a fiver on 3-0 to receive a very handsome reward.

Alan Little was not as bad as some people say.Apart from Gordon Connelly, who was abysmal,Little's team was not too bad.Rob Newman was called stab in the back by some players. He eventually took over from Alan Little, but screwed up.big time !!

YB one of my fsvourite posters! Have you considered working for the samaritans?
Not good days!

There's no accounting for taste.

I have a relative who did some stuff for the Samaritans on the radio. He didn't get asked back when he advised "go on then".

The team wasn't bad on paper but on grass it was dire to watch.

I was feeling better and you mentioned that name!
How long did he get under Webby?
YB this is your fault

Alan little's spell in charge was the lowest point for me since I started watching Southend. Even some of our other woeful managers brought a sense of misplaced hope, Little's teams made me want to stop caring....

Who can forget the midweek game against Brighton, when for 45 mins in the second half Connelly showed what he could do and tore the Brighton team a part, alas never played that well again,I think we were two nil down at half time and won 3.2

The memory though maybe wrong on the score though
