Manager⭐🦐
With Watford doing well at the moment, what are the chances they will be happy to leave Britt with us for a bit longer? It would seem unlikely he would get in the team at the moment (unless someone gets injured) and all the while he is with us he is growing in experience and confidence; a win-win situation for both clubs.
Also, how long can we reasonably expect to keep Laird and Makindawire?

As mentioned in a thread on this subject previously, my concern with Assombalonga is that Watford will want him to play at a higher level. Obviously I hope we can convince them it's better to be playing for a team challenging at the top of our league than go to a struggling (*ahem* Colchester) club in the league above.

Would really hope to see all three stay for the rest of the season .The team Sturrock has built is starting to reep its rewards .And its nice to just sit behind the top 7 its christmas that will find teams out .Lets hope we wont be one of them .UTB

I am pretty sure that Laird is a loan with a view to a perm move, Assambalonga may well go to a League One side in January, and I think Mkindawire is only here to get fit, and will go back to Millwall in Jan.

We have got to make the most of the 10 odd fixtures between now and when they go back.

You're probably right but with Sturrock clearly enjoying Assombalonga's attitude (see his comments about him earlier in the season) Watford may prefer Britt to have such an experienced mentor. As for Mkandawire, I'd love him to be here for the season as well.

I think we will get Laird on a permanent, Assombalonga on loan until the end of the season and I reckon Mkandawire will go back to Millwall in January.

I'm fairly confident we'll hang on to Britt. Yes Watford may want to move him up to L1 but he's playing, learning and developing and I'm sure Luggy will argue that it makes little sense to disrupt that part way through, and that he'll learn a lot when it hopefully comes to the crunch at the end of the season

Is there that much difference between the top of league 2 and the majority of teams in league 1 . I dont think so to be honest and they would not want him to go to another championship side. How he feels himself might have a say.

To stay till the end of the season suits everyone surely? Laird and Mkandawire the reason why we now look like team again and eleven goals from Britt is a super return for mid November. Problem is they're on loan so could go back tomorrow in theory. Pity Sturrock didn't sign Laird at the beginning of the season rather than Spicer who hasn't impressed at all.

Isn't there only so many times you can extend a loan?...

I'm no way an expert on loans (I doubt anyone is with the way in which the rules keep changing ! !), but I think as Brit's loan is classified as a "youth" loan, it can be extended no problems.

However, I think we might have a Stephen Kelly problem in that he was loaned to us in League One, did well, and was recalled and sent to QPR in the Championship to see if he could make the step up. Think he was at Spurs at the time.

The same could happen with Brit, as he is on for 25+ goals in a full season with us, and Watford could want him to see out the season at a higher level. Really hope I am wrong.

As much as I want him to stay , I don't agree with you on this.
It's not about the team he is at , it's about the quality of teams he will play against.
IMO there is quite a big gap between the middle / top of League 1 and the middle / bottom of League 2.

But surely Watford want him to a) be starting week in week out and b) scoring goals. He is doing both here so dont know why they or he himself would want to go anywhere else for the season.

He was doing so at Braintree last season as well and they brought him back from there. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to get him a club in League One in January.

Watford would be mad not to extend the loan. He's still learning his craft and really raw round the edges and Southend is ideal for this.

1. He's guaranteed games, which he wouldn't necessarily be if he went up a division and struggled.
2. He needs to work on his link-up play, letting him work with the same set of players for a full season gives him time to learn how to build relationships with players, to know how they are going to deliver the ball and how they want to receive the ball.
3. Sturrock is the ideal manager for him - a former top class forward and an excellent coach who stresses all the things like channel running, hold-up play that Britt needs to work on.
4. He can learn from the God that is Big Bad Barry Corr.
5. He's struggled this last month or so, suggesting that he's not ready to move up, just yet.
6. Despite the recent struggles, he's scoring goals which will do wonders for his confidence and his learning.
7. If he's stays he's going to get experience of a promotion push be it play-offs or automatics.
