Mick
The Ref Aficionado.
As we go for our fifth consecutive win at Barnet the man in charge is due to be Pat Miller of Bedfordshire. A referee in his 8th season, it will be his sixth Southend match.
The last was the home victory, last season, over Crawley in the JP Trophy when he sent off Dickinson, not unreasonably.
Before that it was the season before last's home draw with Bury (2 yellows apiece incl Sodje for them). This was Mohsni's return after a month on the sidelines and he came off the bench to score the equaliser.
His previous appearances include four seasons ago 1-0 home wins against both Leeds and Northampton. The other one was the home draw with Swansea five seasons ago.
Not a referee I like very much and he alternates between average performances and absolute shockers. A short, short-haired and, sometimes, slightly fussy official, his card count is usually high.
For some reason, presumably injury, this is is first match since mid-October. Prior to his long absence, he'd started the season in lively fashion with 22 yellows and 3 reds from just 6 games.
Assisting will be Mathew Buonassisi (who will make Mr Miller seem tall) also from Bedford and Alan Young, the Cambridge FA Referees Development Manager. Ryan Atkin from London will be 4th Official.
Elsewhere, ex Southend supporter Rob Whitton had his first ever League match on Saturday at Aldershot and produced 5 yellows and 2 reds in what was described as a fiery encounter.
