Your battle is underway. Here's pot 1 (we'll do 8 pots of 3).

No evidence = you forefit the round. You have been warned!

There's more...

Mother doesn't go out anymore
Just sits at home and rolls her spastic eyes
But every weekend through the door
Come words of wisdom from the world outside

If you want to know 'bout the bishop and the actress
If you want to know how to be a star
If you want to know 'bout the stains on the mattress
You can read it in the Sunday papers
Sunday papers

Mother's wheelchair stays out in the hall
Why should she go out when the TV's on?
Whatever moves beyond these walls
She'll know the facts when Sunday comes along

If you want to know 'bout the mad punk rockers*
If you want to know how to play guitar
If you want to know 'bout any other suckers
You can read it in the Sunday papers
Read it in the Sunday papers

I may bit a bit biased, but in his pomp Macca helped write songs like Hey Jude, Fool on the Hill, Lady Madonna, Let It Be....etc etc. Even some Wings stuff was great - but he should be shot for Ebony & Ivory, The Frog Chorus & Mull of Kintyre.

Listen to The Wall then listen to the Frog song. McCartney was king (helped by Lennon) of the three minute pop song but great lyricist? Not so sure.
Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and I’ve already mentioned The Wall, absolutely amazing lyrical work.

I've got a little black book with my poems in
Got a bag with a toothbrush and a comb in
When I'm a good dog, they sometimes throw me a bone in
I got elastic bands keepin' my shoes on
Got those swollen-hand blues
I got thirteen channels of **** on the T.V. to choose from
I've got electric light
And I've got second sight
I got amazing powers of observation
And that is how I know
When I try to get through
On the telephone to you
There'll be nobody home
I've got the obligatory Hendrix perm
And the inevitable pinhole burns
All down the front of my favorite satin shirt
I've got nicotine stains on my fingers
I've got a silver spoon on a chain
Got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains
I've got wild staring eyes
And I've got a strong urge to fly
But I got nowhere to fly to
Ooh, babe when I pick up the phone
there's still nobody home
I've got a pair of Gohills boots
But I got fading roots

McCartney never wrote anything as good as this.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Pink Floyd
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun
Shine on you crazy diamond
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky
Shine on you crazy diamond
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom
Blown on the steel breeze
Come on you target for faraway laughter
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon
Shine on you crazy diamond
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light
Shine on you crazy diamond
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision
Rode on the steel breeze
Come on you raver, you seer of visions
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine

An unlikely leader at this stage. Note, in the event of a tie I will simply toss a coin.

Listen to The Wall then listen to the Frog song.

If you're going to compare a masterpiece (which, quite frankly, The Wall is) to a song written for a children's film then fill your boots.
For your ' Frog song', I will respond with 'The Final Cut, the most self indulgent pile of music rubbish and the rest of the band were embarrassed that it was released under the Pink Floyd name.

Anyway, back to PM. A man who needs no introduction as he is well regarded as top of the pile when it comes to musicians. His songs are known and sung the world over and still will be for many generations to come.
I don't feel I need to any any more as everyone knows who PM is (unlike the others in the battle) but have fun all.

Great Britian You Are Tremendous
And Nobody Knows Like Me
But Really What Are You Doin'
In The Land Across The Sea

compared with

Now
The mist across the window hides the lines
But nothing hides the colour of the lights that shine
Electricity so fine
Look and dry your eyes

We
So tired of all the darkness in our lives
With no more angry words to say can come alive
Get into a car and drive
To the other side

Me babe, steppin' out
Into the night
Into the light
You babe, steppin' out
Into the night
Into the light

What I like about early Joe Jackson is that he clearly rode the angry young man punk movement (just as Elvis Costello did.).These days while he still hasn't lost that that early angst ,as befits a classically trained musician,he and his band can play some really great jazz too.

This about his lyrics, nothing more.

Yeah got that. The lyrics also stand up to scrutiny.

FOOL LYRICS
[Verse 1]
Tougher than Superman, smarter than Batman
Could be a thin man, could be a fat man
Got more lives than a motherfuckin' cat, man
Go! Follow that man! Go! Follow that man!

When that I was an a little tiny boy
(Heigh, ho, the wind and the rain)
A foolish thing was nothing but a toy
(Rain, rain, every day
Rain, rain, go away
Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain)

[Chorus]
Fool kicks off the carnival
Wise man goes to church
Fool ****s up the funeral
No respect, well what do you expect

[Verse 2]
He's the man who don't follow orders
Stands on one leg and plays the recorder
Gets out of jail and laughs at the warder
Break for the border! Break for the border!

He that has an a little tiny wit
(Heigh, ho, the wind and the rain)
Better make sure that he uses it
(Rain, rain, every day
Rain, rain, go away
Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain)
