Question Best Fish & Chips on the seafront

Not sure if this has been asked before, but just a quick one.

Looking at taking my son to Southend today, to do the usual train on the pier, adventure island and so on.

Where is the best fish and chip shop, where you can sit indoors, on the seafront? We normally park at the sea life centre and walk up to the pier and stop somewhere on the way.

There’s a few actually right opposite the pier entrance if you want to sit outside. Lovely day for a stroll up the pier and ride back.

Enjoy

They are all pretty much of a muchness apart from Bailey's, which is awful. I haven't tried it, but the Britannia near SeaLife is meant to be OK. It's part of the Miller Group that run adventure Island. It used to a pub and it's all eat in.

I'd go somewhere like The Fish House on East Street or Oldhams on West Road and eat them out of the paper on the cliffs outside the Cliffs Pavilion.

Then I would hit Rossi for an ice cream.

Do you know sometimes, doing what you have a suggested just can't be topped.

The best fish and chip shop in Southend is Van Looys opposite Southend Central Station . My wife and I live in Leigh and will travel to Van Looys a couple of times a month for a fantastic Fish and Chip meal .

Camden Town has a pretty good stab at waterfront fish and chips in my local town. It’s really hard to get anything authentic out here unless you want to pay close to £30

Hope you had a great day with your son.

Where did you end up going? Recommended…

A mate of mine recommended Billy Hundreds on the esplanade, but for me Oldhams has always been great for 🐠 and 🍟

Thanks everyone.

Ended up going to Cafe Luigi I think it was called, opposite the pier. My boy was getting hungry so went to one of the first ones we found. He demolished his fish fingers and chips, and I went medium cod & chips which was good too.

We tried Ye Oldie Chippy mid week. It used to be on the corner opposite the Kursaal then got a new spot when the corner was demolished. We ate in and I have to say the table service and the cod were up there with the Fish House in terms of quality and I would recommend it.
George Zinanos who runs it is a friend of mine. Known him from when we both used to hang out on the seafront as youth. His dad Tony started Ye Olde Chippy when it was on the other corner. George is well in to quality, so you will get a good meal there.
