Best pub to watch the football in Southend?

Beefy

Life President
I'm flying home tomorrow morning for the game and will be pretty much going straight to the pub to watch the two games before the main event. But I'm not really sure where to go. In 98 I saw most of the big games in Saks. In 2002 it was a packed Route 66 and in 2006 was a combination of Yates and the Slug & Lettuce.

Now I just don't see a pub in Southend that really appeals. Saks is the stand-out choice, I guess. Never been a big fan of Varsity.

So will anyone be watching the game in Southend and where do people think the best place to watch a match in town is?

Apparently they are putting big screens up in the garden at the Slug. They seem to have a few decent drink promotions on too.

Over here a large number of pubs now have self-service pumps on your table for Guinness and Carlsberg so you can keep pouring yourself drinks (you pay by card when you leave). Something like that would be so handy for the football.

This is where I will be.
Warners Bridge. Southend Rugby club. Giant Screen, England Souvenir stall. Gates open 2pm before kick-off at 7.30pm. Drink and food available.
Up to 9000 people can watch on a Giant 5M by 6M screen on the pitch. £1 Children, £2 Adults £5 for families. Half the entrance fee goes to 'Help for Heroes' and the 'Little Havens Childrens Hospice'.
