Post-Match Thread and Ratings Brighton 2-3 Southend United

So, are you telling me I shouldn't comment? :O It's not JUST me that says these things but ALWAYS me that catches the flak - I was there, I saw, and several other people saw.....Moussa had a quiet game, yes ok, he took the corner that lead to O'Donovan's goal, but he's the corner taker and considering how many corners we had I think I had every right to criticise the predictability of them. He also flicked on the ball to Laurent, just beating Macca to the ball. That was about ALL he did.

I completely resent the criticism of people who were NOT there telling me I must be wrong because I have a blinkered view. Macca actually looked better at Brighton than in the last few games, and I'm hoping whatever was causing him problems recently has now been resolved, because prior to the Revs fallout, he'd been our most consistant player.

Everyone else who went and has posted on here seems to suggest Moussa was better than Macca... I think that's the general issue. Personally until Macca starts scoring or setting up goals then he's not doing his job properly and he'll be suspended soon and won't have a right to come straight back into the team.

I love Macca, but he's just not cutting the mustard at the moment. If Moussa has a 'quiet' game, directly setting up one goal, taking the corner for another then that's fine by me... roll on some more quiet games!

I just can't see why we would want to change the side, when we're unbeaten in the last 3 games, have only lost 1 out of 8, and sit 8th in the table.

I think a lot of the discussion has been about impending suspensions and worries about injuries. We're looking a good team at the moment I agree, but many people seem to think that even with the limited squad it could maybe be improved and some of the 'squad' players like Sawyer might take their chance and cause a headache for Tilly and Brush if/when he comes in.

I've seen 2 games this season both of which the "fans" reckon Macca has had a mare. TBH any team needs a tough experienced midfielder and I thought he had reasonable games but more importantly allowed the youngsters in Moussa and Grant to play. Without Macca's bruising I doubt if they would get the licence. You may not like it but he'd be one of the first on my team sheet and it looks as if Tilly agrees.
Only seen all the homes this season but Macca has been superb throughout. Dont think anyone that went to the Millwall game could question his ability - Kenny Jackett certainly didnt when he offered £200k for him.
I too cannot understand some of the reasoning behind the negative comments directed at Macca. As an aside, I recently went to the Millwall match with a friend who has both played/worked in football and who had no allegiance one way or another. After the match, I was keen to get his honest opinion on the team and the first thing he said was "if it was not for your number 8 you would have been completely overrun in the middle and they would have cut straight through you".

I agree Macca may not have had the perfect game yesterday, but neither did Grant or Moussa - the fact is if you look hard enough you can pick holes in anybody.

Just a couple of quotes here from widely differing posters, never under estimate the value of what he brings to the side, and never forget the criticism so often faced by Kevin Maher in a similar role. Once the youngsters have settled down, then maybe Macca, too, can emerge as the playmaker Kev became.

I'd like to see Franno taking some corner kicks though, just for some variety.

Macca out- waste of space..he only stays at Southend for his love of OBL...sell him for the price of a lollipop.:)

Er, McCormack doesn't play the Maher role.

Are you mistaking Maher with Phil Gridelet?

No it hasn't. Most of the disucussions seem to have been about getting Sawyer into the team, and at the moment the person everyone wants to replace is Macca. Absolute madness to me....

Methinks it will be the next moment of Macca madness which will give Sawyer his chance...

I think Macca's mind is elsewhere these days..ever since OBL sent him a collection of her y fronts and peep ole's he has not been able to perform on the pitch....This may be rumour only but I have heard this is true from a golfing party of tilly's left boot.

Stop stirring you - and I don't wear y-fronts! They're bloody men's grundies!

Have just viewed the Brighton extended highlights and have to say that the 'Blues Player' commentary made it sound rather more exciting. I assume that Brighton did the editing, which tended to to show a pretty even match with rather less goalmouth action than I expected.........we seemed to have two chances, on target, and scored from both of them.
In truth it was worth the subscription to see our first and third goals, the former being a brilliant team effort, loved the back heal, the cross and the header ....sublime
.................the latter a brilliant bit of individual skill by Francis Laurent.......just skill.
M'voto was really as bad as it sounded on the commentary.......I just hope that it was due to his injury problem..........however, great finishing by Forster. Great save from Mildy to deny him his hat-trick and that shot which cannoned off the underside of the bar was just a little too close for comfort. In the end, I'm not fussy, I'll accept three points, deserved or undeserved, any day. Don't really believe that Brighton's position in the league is a true reflection of the current way they are playing and I would expect to see them in the top half of the table come the end of the season............which , of course, makes it an even better result.
