BT Cup Round 4

MrB

Life President
I'm getting my arse kicked back to the stone age at the moment!

End of Over 34: 232-1, runrate=6.82
Sajjad 7-0-38-0
Downing* 83 (94 balls)
Hegarty 94 (84 balls)

Last Wicket: Carson c. Laird b. San 45 (FOW: 61/1)

My best bowler went for 55 runs in his first 5 overs!! They had a superb top order but not a lot else, unfortunately they've done all the work themselves

Well we eventually decided to take some wickets, their last 9 wickets went for 11 runs. 8 of them by Laird who'd previously been spanked all round the park to end with 8-85 from 9 overs!! 329 to chase and once again my main batsmen have all turned into blubbering spastics:

End of Over 24: 114-6, runrate=4.75, reqrunrate=8.31 (329-10)
Fleetwood 2-0-20-0
Askew* 26 (30 balls)
Sajjad 8 (8 balls)

Last Wicket: Curtis c. Lebimo b. Tucker 46 (FOW: 89/6)

sad.gif

And that's the end of the match. Heam Team won by 137 runs.
Heam Team 329-10
ShrimperZone CC 192-10

Once again an appalling collapse from the top order. 99 run partnership for the seventh wicket but there's only so much you can expect lower order batsmen to do!

I was 160 all out off 40 odd overs.

He got them without losing a wicket in 20 odd overs...

His ratings were quite impressive so I think I made the right choice fielding my reserves and TIE. Team Fitness now up to Sublime. I know it doesn't have as much effect anymore but it can't hurt!

Cheadle
Top Order: strong
Middle Order: competent
Lower Order: abysmal
Seam Bowling: competent
Spin Bowling: competent
Fielding: feeble

On my dusty pitch if I'd GFI with my First XI it would have been a close game. But I have some tough games coming up in the league so I wanted to concentrate on them.

Still, another capacity crowd swells the coffers to over 600k now.

I have over a million quid at the moment. Just wondering what i could have done with another £250,000+ IF i wouldn't have gone out of the cup. Damn those mystical FC games. I had a nice 7 wicket win over BB's side. I rested 6 players and it was for my new YP from a few weeks back get 3 wickets. Puttin him at the top of the batting (pinch hitting) didn't work though. Did you rest your whole 11 BB?

Kev

Comfortable win, once I had restricted the opposition to 230. They had better openers than me, but no bowling attack.

Am I the only SZ-er left in the cup? Its a welcome respite to my woes in the league. Just call me Steve Tilson.

Yes, that was my total reseve team. Titterton was just a bit too much for us. Still my trainee WK/Bat scored 30 odd and my cheap all-rounder scored 40 so it's not all bad. The one that is really perplexing me is Whibread, he's Proficient / Feeble and no matter where I bat him or what orders he has, he just never gets any runs.

I've got a load of players like that! I think its the lack of consistency. I had a couple of competent-feebles who never scored any runs. Thats one of the reasons I sold Stapelton and its one of the reasons I'll be trying to pull a keeper-batsman to train up next week.

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and sacrifice my batting strength to get myself a bowler who can actually win me a game (unlike Laird who waits until he's conceded 80 runs before ripping them to shreds!).

Going to sell two batsmen and hopefully find myself a top level bowler. There's a remarkable one on the list at the moment, anyone know what they normally sell for? Think I'll leave the exceptional one with proficient batting, current bid £5.3m!

Matt, how long do you think you'll be in the cup for? Want to start the SZ Cup soon but I'll hang on if you:

a) want to play
b) will be out in the next couple of rounds.

Does anyone have any objections if I get all the new teams I've recruited elsewhere to join in? They're all pretty rubbish but it will allow us to pad the competition out a little bit!

Difficult to say how much longer I'll be in the cup for.

Could be next round, it could be another 4 rounds. I forgot to check what my next opponent is like, but there probably isn't much difference between a lot of the teams left in it. I'm always vulnerable if I come up against a one-man team and he's on song, but with a good draw and a bit of luck I could make it back to the quarters or semis again - although it'll definitely be tougher as I'll be away from home the entire time and am struggling in the league. If you want to go ahead without me that's fair enough.

You'll struggle to get anything better than superb for less than £2m.

Don't know final prices, but I try and keep an eye on the transfer list from time to time for players superb or better, and there's not many out there for sale, especially bowlers.

I'd guess you'd need up to about £3m for a quality and up to about £4m for a remarkable.

Bear in mind that you'll need to keep some money in the bank to make sure you pick up maximum interest so that you can afford their wages.

I have £2.1m and am selling two strongs and a proficient all with decent secondaries and stamina. Should be able to afford something decent, there's a remarkable listed for Friday morning so I might have to make sure I'm in work early. I've set the starting prices lowish for the three listed players to make sure I have the cash in hand.

For sale:

Bill Longthorn - 22 yo, BT Rating=10,807
RH Batsman, RF Bowler, strong batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with abysmal leadership skills and woeful experience.
Stamina: proficient Wicket Keeping: abysmal
Batting: proficient Concentration: competent
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: feeble
Fielding: woeful

Derek Firth - 22 yo, BT Rating=11,233
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A defensive player with strong leadership skills and feeble experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: woeful
Batting: strong Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: competent

Ryan Laird - 22 yo, BT Rating=10,674
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, proficient batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with respectable leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: abysmal
Batting: abysmal Concentration: woeful
Bowling: strong Consistency: competent
Fielding: competent

Hope this works!

How much do you reckon they'll go for? Are you hoping for?

Might lob in a bid for one or all 3. I'll then be able to concentrate my nets on 1 or 2 trainees instead of spreading them over 3 or 4.

Longthorn is listed for £400k, no bids yet.
Laird's current bid £750k
Firth's current bid £714k

Not really sure what they will all go for, hopefully the two strongs will tip over the £1m mark.

Kev, that's why I'm selling these ones, they're being overtaken by the younger players.
