I am of the opinion that seats should only be offered to women only if they are pregnant, disabled, elderly, or a combination of any of the preceeding conditions.

By offering someone a seat purely because they are female you are saying that 'I don't respect you as an equal' and merely re-enforcing gender stereotypes.

Anyway, how many women have offered me a seat on a train when I have been obviously too drunk to stand up for forty minutes?

None, thats how many.

You can never win when it comes to offering seats.

i) If you do offer your seat - "I don't need the seat I'm more than capable of standing"

ii) You don't offer your seat - "I can't believe that nobody has offered me a seat, can you not see I need one?!"

And even worse are the old gits (men) who nudge you and tell you to give up your seat!
