i know this should be in the League 2 forum, but this could affect us if Chester get wound up.

From The Chester Evening Leader: VAT MAN’S BID TO SHUT CITY

CHESTER CITY was today served with a petition to compulsorily wind it up.

HM Customs and Excise has brought proceedings against the club for unpaid VAT.
The Evening Leader understands that the matter is a historical issue which is likely to be contested by the club.
Chester City bosses have been called to attend a hearing which will be held at the High Court of Justice, Liverpool District Registry, at Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts, Derby Square, Liverpool, on July 26, at 10am.
The company, incorporated in December 1994, has until 4pm on July 23 to reply to the petition for the winding-up.
News of the winding-up petition appeared in the London Gazette on Friday, July 16.
Chester City refused to comment today on the issue.

Then there's this from BBC

Looks like Chester are in deep sh*te.

Of all the people in football, Steve bloody Evans of Boston should be the last to complain at other clubs underhand financial dealings!  Perhaps they haven't paid his cut of the transfer fee yet?

If Chester get wound-up, we'll still be playing 23 other teams in the division!

My suspicion is that they will continue though, get a fine and points deduction to help them on their way back to the Conference

Doubt it'll be a problem, although it's good to see their local paper being interested in their problems.

When the Inland Revenue served a winding up petition on SUFC, did it make the Echo?  Did it bollox.

Sounds as if Chester are going to challenge the petition on the grounds that the money is not owing; however, having managed to get promoted, I would be amazed if they allowed the petition to be heard if their challenge to the petition does not succeed.  I'm sure that they'll just cough up.

I expect Chester to be here next season.  I reckon Darlo are in far, far more trouble than Chester are in the financial stakes.

True, but if something happens that prevents Chester from playing in the League then it's almost certain that the action taken would be to reinstate the team that finished 2nd from bottom last season.

So instead of a nice trip to a nice town with little prospect of any trouble, we'd have another depressing long haul to the hell-hole that is Carlisle.

You have a valid point there... but, that was not what I meant!

If it was earlier in the season, then that would've been a possibility, now it would cause havoc restructuring League 2 and The Conference.
IMO if Chester were wound up, then the division would just have 23 teams in it, with one getting relegated at the end of the season.

Agree with Southend Shrimp.
If Chester are wound up Carlisle would NOT be re-instated.
We would have a division of 23 with just 1 relegated but 2 still promoted from the conference.

If you recall Aldershot were wound up before a season started and Division 4 (as it then was) played with 23 teams.
