Man in charge of tomorrow's match is Gary Sutton from Lincoln. He is in the third season of his second spell as a League referee having previously been demoted from the list and returning after a couple of seasons in the BlueSquare.

It will be his second Southend away match in reasonably quick succession as he refereed the Cup replay at Oldham when Mohsni's enthusiasm got the better of him.

He has refereed Southend three times altogether in this second spell. As well as the Oldham replay, he did last season's somewhat fractious home match against Accrington (1-1) when he showed 6 yellows and 1 red, all but one of these cards to the visitors. The other game was easier for both him and us as we breezed past Bradford City 4-0, also last season.

He has refereed 23 matches this season producing a very average 69 yellows and 6 reds. He gets most of the decisions reasonably correct, but seems a bit harder with his sanctions on away players than the home ones. I am not surprised to see all his red cards this season have been shown to visiting players.

His assistants will be Craig Hicks from Sutton who works for Surrey FA and brummie Mark Howes from Solihull with Essex man Dave Margetts from Harlow as Fourth Official.

Mr Sutton will be assessed by former top referee Dennis Hedges from Oxford, who once sent off George Best at Old Trafford (when the referees had the bottle to do that sort of thing!)

I was at the Oldham match and can safely say this referee is a homer.

He was very biased towards Oldham and, even though Moshni's second yellow was justified, his first probably wasn't and he was on his case from that moment on.

I can only hope that our supporters will be vocal enough, because this man reacts to crowd pressure.

I will be there with my boys and, no matter how he performs, will verbally abuse him (as per normal).
