Just over 2 weeks until the cricket world cup kicks of and final squads due in 8 days time. What are everyones thoughts on what the England squad should be?

I'd go for this 15:

Roy
Bairstow
Root
Morgan
Buttler
Stokes
Ali
Rashid
Archer
Wood
Hales
Woakes
Denly or Dawson
Jordan
Willey

Think it's pretty uncontroversial the only contentious selections may be:

Wood- because he has been injured, he is obviously close enough to a return to be named in the initial squad and I think Wood and Archer would be the most fearsome seam attack in the tournament.

Jordan - for me there are a few back up bowling all-rounders we could put in that in all likelihood would not be used. For me Jordan is possibly the best fielder in the world so with substitute fielder in mind I'd select Jordan.

Hales - he'd be an instant selection for the 15 if it wasn't for his failed drugs test, make him go rehab and do some community work and get him back in.

Would love a bit of discussion and hearing arguments for others?

Think the squad has picked it self, Archer being a name that excites me and if Josh B finds his eye early it could be exciting days for England

Looking at the Kiwis as my outside bet and really outside bet Afghanistan (Their progress has been amazing in such a short space of time)

Would like to have seen Porter in the squad, but then I am very biased on him as a player

I'm guessing you mean Jos B, and yes he is a big player. Whilst I think the bulk of the squad picks itself there does seem to be contention around the fringe.
A lot of people are tipping the Kiwi's but I'm not so sure, I think they have passed their golden generation. Even though the west indies are struggling in the tri series with Ireland and Bangladesh at the moment, I'd have them as my outsider bet with all their IPL players to come back in. In fact I've had 20 quid on them at 15/1. Afghanistan and Bangladesh are not easy games and they will both pick up wins. I think SL will be the whipping boys despite the betting having them at half the odds of Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

I'd take Plunkett over Willey but that's a minor quibble and out of your choice of Dawson and Denly I'd take Dawson.

I particularly like your designation of Jordan as a specialist sub-fielder and rehabilitation of Hales.

I think Billings is a big loss as squad depth. He's an explosive batsman finally pulling it together at international level and a very good fielder. Terrible timing for him.

Plunkett/Willey I wouldn't split hairs over but I would like a left handed option, hence me opting for Willey.

It was during the England v WI t20 game that someone on the sky commentary team suggested Jordan getting in for his fielding ability and being our no1 sub fielder and it made perfect sense to me. I hadn't even thought of that angle until they mentioned it.

I’m sure Hales is delighted all is forgiven so quickly!
Bowler missing out for me is Wood as it appears Archer is pretty much assured a place. Plunkett takes wickets in the middle overs (more than anyone else apparently) and Willey gives you a lefty option.
Would like to see Vince or Foakes in the squad and agree about Billings.
Ozzies are my bet if England choke.

To be honest I'm more concerned about Plunkett's multiple convictions for an action that puts others in danger than I am about Hales' multiple drug test failures for a recreational non-performance enhancing drug.

And I’m more concerned about one of the worlds most talented white ball cricketers throwing his career away.
Opinions on the severity of what he’s done don’t alter this. It’s still illegal to use class B drugs and to do so when you’re in a profession that tests for drug use is frankly juvenile.

He wasn't dropped for performance reasons but because the media found out.

And it's legal in quite a few places in the world - several US states, Portgual etc where he could legally have consumed.

Granted it's stupid when he gets tested but Plunkett trumps him in the stupidity stakes.

Plunkett’s hasn’t been black balled by his team mates, he has.
He’s a prat

My point being of course is you’ve picked a player who can’t play.

Can't he? I've not seen anything saying he is banned by the ICC, all I've heard about is the ECB suspending him. My understanding is we can shorten that suspension or rescind it and pick him for the world cup. I've certainly read articles suggesting that is possible.

I have seen an interview with Morgan today which suggests he is not Mr popular with the squad so for that reason maybe best to leave him out. If were down to ability and if the squad were happy to have him, I'd pick him in a heartbeat

He's served his ECB ban but as the story leaked he's been banned indefinitely by Ashley Giles.

Looking at the scorecard Willey doesn't look to have done his world cup chances much good.

Cricket can be funny like that in stats tell a different story.
He bowled well on a very small ground.
Still a big score to get but just the test they need.
Could slow up a bit under the lights so got to get off well.
Big innings for Moeen Ali this.

Was a hard call SAM especially as Archer forced his way in

Not sure about Vince in the squad though, just my one bug bear
