Do we need to sign another goalkeeper?

Do we need to sign another goalkeeper?

I moved the threads about goalkeepers from the Spasov thread because they were off topic. Yours was the first one I moved because it seemed to be the genesis of the off topic discussion, you can delete your own posts if you like. I realise now you were responding to someone else so I’ve moved that one too so now it looks like they started it!
Thanks.

If we could get rid of Hayes, yes. I doubt that we can, or that Kev wants to, so no.

Maybe with more time, a full pre-season and a regular spot Hayes will come good. I think Collin is a better keeper so it’ll be interesting to see who starts as number one with both fully fit for pre-season, my guess would be Hayes.

My twopenny's worth is that both keepers are more than good enough to be our #1 and will push both on; competition is paramount is any position.

More important is another centre half, to run the back line and ensure the keeper is protected. Goodliffe? No problem. Golding? My preference but I reckon no chance.

There may be a third option... We shall see!

(I'm not ITK btw. Just speculating).

Collin gets fit and this isn't even a discussion, the best young keeper in this division and probably in the division above too if we were there

I voted yes, only because I really don’t feel confident about our 2 current keepers.

Just think if we want to get out this league we need better. If we don’t sign another then of course I will back our two boys to the hilt on the pitch

True BUT if we had to the chance to sign another who was a standard higher, then release or loan out one of the others would you go for that?
We wouldnt get that that level without paying a lot of money plus bigger wages. Money that we do not have. Plus where would we get the money to release a player? Goalkeepers are always more difficult to get rid of so we would be left with a bulging squad. We got to the play off final with what we have. We are fine in that department

I'm happy with these two. both good enough to start, many other teams won't have as good quality on their books. Hayes seems much bigger and stronger, really impressed when he first joined with how dominant he can be in the air, decisive and commanding. Collin isn't as much, but pulls of some superb saves. But he is injured a lot. Hopefully just growing pains and he gets there physically. Also the style of play changed, Hayes goes a lot longer than Collin did for a long time that made him and us shaky

Mad to think (and I agree) most would prefer Colin who came from Basildon united over nick hayes who was at Ipswich, just goes to show that getting spotted and into a pro academy at a young age is really just about luck, right place right time etc.

Prefer Collin and I think he has a much higher ceiling, so he’d be my first choice if he’s fit and has a good pre-season.

But Hayes is a perfectly decent keeper at this level and is still only 26 so his peak years are yet to come. Comes across like a really nice guy with a great attitude, so I feel like he’s exactly the sort of player we’ve been targeting, i.e. young, ambitious, willing to learn and put the effort in.

I genuinely don’t think the prospect of signing a third keeper and trying to move one on has even been remotely considered in the summer, and rightly so in my opinion.

I see a few comments saying we have two quality keepers but I'm not sure that's true. I think we need another but it will have to be one-in-one-out. Can't see us having 3 options there.
