Does it really matter what league we are in

I've been thinking recently about how much more I've enjoyed this season compared to the previous 4 simply because we are competitive in this league.

As we are never going to be a side to win the premiership / champions league, how much does it really matter what league we are in? As long as we are a professional side that performs well I don't really care what league we are in.

Traditionally, for most of our history, we've been a third or 4th division club.Personally I won't be happy until we're at least back in L2 and challenging for promotion to L1 from that particular graveyard.

(This thread will probably deserve a poll eventually).

Personally I hate not being in the football league and want us to get back asap. Even though the difference in the standard of football between League Two and the The National League is marginal, it just feels like we're on the periphery of things and no longer at the hub of English football.
I also miss not having the buzz of an occasional away day at a bigger club.
When our new stadium finally opens, it won't quite feel the same if we're not playing in the football league.

In my time since the mid 60s we have always yo-yoed between Div1 and Div2 apart from that brief spell in the Championship. With our town size (now city) and catchment area we should be in Div1 and on occasion pressing for the playoffs. When you see the likes of Brentford, Watford and Bournemouth doing relatively well there is no reason why we couldn't emulate them - however to do that we would have to have a ship that is always sailing on course and in the right direction and we all know that has not been the case for many years

Football is tribal and, without the aspiration to be better than our rivals, it would be a sterile affair. To do better and to progress is the what the fans enjoy most. Many will trade attractive football for success. We don't have a right to be in the football league but we certainly have the desire. Our fanbase is too big to languish in non-league and our potential is to be able to do more than we have historically and to sustain it.

I've enjoyed this season with new clubs, new grounds and more TV exposure. It's weird that the National League has a higher profile on national TV than L2 does!

However, I'll be happier when we're back in the EFL I think......
You can't get more TV exposure than you can when we're in L2 with an ifollow season pass for every game. Aa an overseas fan the 5 matches selected for BT Sport really doesn't compare.
