Post-Match Thread and Ratings Dover Athletic 0-1 Southend United

A stunning turnout, amazing stuff.

Game was terrible and dull but definitely had more control of the game though Dover did come too close with hitting the post.

It was hard to tell who was who at times... yellow shirt and white numbers don't add up to much but Husin took the goal well and also pulled off a great tackle to win the ball back just before that.

Clifford also got nearly lucky with a corner goal!

Overall a huge contrast to the FA Cup game, and a team much more like a normal team! This team is going in a much better direction. Just good to see again.

Official highlights:

As someone else said, I don't get the white numbering on a yellow shirt. Surely it wasn't rocket science to have a darker colour (blue!) so you can actually pick them out!ShirtBack.jpg

Actual ratings:

Town: 5/10 (rundown)
Weather: 7/10 (OK for January)
Parking: 6/10 (on the road but near the away stand)
Breakwater Pub: 7/10 (shame I had to drive - an oasis in a bleak area)
Beers: 7/10 (decent variety)
Walk to ground: 6/10 (past a graveyard, up a mountain)
Opposition staff: 6/10 (potential for corruption?)
Ground: 5/10 (like the town)
Food and facilities in ground 4/10 (one portaloo, cardboard burger, massive queues, no beers as @Blue_Wes informed me)
View of game: 5/10 (Limited from away end)

Players:

Arnold 6/10 - solid (commanding, no saves to make)
Demi 5/10 - average (didn't set the world alight)
Ralph 5/10 - average (looks off the pace a bit)
Lopata 6/10 - solid (won a few headers)
Hobson 5/10 - average (looks undone when someone runs at him)
Clifford 5/10 - average (a few crosses but defending a bit off)
Husin 7/10 - good (well-taken goal)
Atkinson 6/10 - solid (runs a lot)
Cardwell 7/10 - good (shame he went off)
Dennis 6/10 - solid (but probably injured)
Dalby 5/10 - average (tried too hard?)

Ferguson 5/10 - average (didnt really notice him)
Powell - 6/10 - solid (tried a few things, bit selfish)

I did enjoy the Dover massive shouting at us from down below on the rugby pitch.

My word, it was a penalty! Wasn't 100% on the day side on but really should have been given.

Agree with the number colouring, odd!

Smashing goal from husin. Dennis should have done better with that header!
He should have done better than he did but it was never going to result in a goal without having some more pace on it. Very difficult to do anything worthwhile with such a floaty ball.

True, and im only going on the highlights, but on target would have been nice.

stop (2).jpgGood to see the lads enjoying a bit of Motown.
