So an update. Couldn't get an instructor for love nor money so my son carried on driving the wife's car then bought his own and went out in that mainly with the wife and with me from time to time.
Had his test this morning but his car had an electrical issue last night so had to use the wife's car. Luckily he was still insured on it
It's got a high clutch and is a bit of a pig to drive but he passed with 3 minors.
Oddly he passed 3 months before his 19th birthday and so did I. Also, my instructors car broke down the night before my test so I drove a totally different car for my test and passed
