Still big holes down the middle of the ex-Southend managers XI, not helped by Martin Allen leaving Barnet again

. ????????????
Dean Austin (Northampton) ?????? ???????? Chris Powell (Southend)
???????? ?????????????? ????????????? Nathan Jones (Luton)
. Neil Harris (Millwall) Mark Cooper (Forest Green)

if we extend to National League, we can have Fullarton at Halifax and Edinburgh at Orient.
Further down, Bradbury's manager of Havant and Waterloovile

Also, Peter Beadle is doing wonders at Hereford, as is Gandhi at Basford Town.

If we look at all-time who've managed in the professional leagues, well that's a whole different thing. A list below of some ex-players who managed successfully.

Chris Powell (Charlton)
Peter Taylor (Gillingham/Wycombe/Hull)
Alan Dicks (Bristol City)
James Donnelly (Turkey and Fenerbahce)
John Neal (Wrexham)
Roy McDonough (Colchester)
John Bollington (one game for Southend, one game managing the Netherlands)
Billy Barnes (Atletico Bilbao)
Bill Harvey (Chesterfield)
ian McNeill (Wigan)
Jimmy Bissett (Dundee)

any more?

Good call on most of these. Not sure Nichol can be included for US Indoor football or Pennyfather for non-league football.

Thanks Ed Smith.

David Jack played one FA cup game for us (he was also manager 1934 to 1940) then went on to manage Middlesborough 1944 to 1952.
He should be on your ex players to manage list especially if John Bollington is.

No disrespect to Wrexham, well not too much anyway, but I would have thought John Neal's longish stint at Chelsea would have been more noteworthy, especially as he had Ian McNeill as his assistant for a good part of it.
