FA CUP

Premiership teams getting their own way again really can’t be bothered with them and there money much more exciting following the
Mighty blues and seeing teams like Wakering Rovers getting to Wembley,

Its only a big money spinner if we pull out a big club. Premiership and Championship clubs enter from round 3 and we have usually exited the cup long before then.

Surely it makes sense it scrapping the relays at the beginning of the competition for those clubs who might have to make a replay trip to a club miles away causing more expense when money is tight.

If we draw Carlisle and hold them to a draw at Roots Hall, who in the right mind wants to make the god awful trip up to Carlisle on a wet Tuesday night when the match could have been settled by going to extra time and then penalties.

I'm sure its been noted that early cup games are put on at a loss when held at Roots Hall with the crowd not up to league attendance levels and to aid reducing costs various stands are no opened up.

Now you have semi finals at wembley.

Remember the good old days when you only played a final at wembley and it was a whole day affair. Helicopters in the air, crappy suits, cup singles in the charts.

Happy days sadly gone now
Yes, before the Coventry v Maidstone quarter-final, the commentator/presenter was talking to the Maidstone manager and said something like “how does it feel to be only one game from Wembley?” It just sounded so naff and had none of the significance as if he had meant getting to a final.
Thin end of the wedge as regards the downgrading of what was the Crown Jewels competition in football.
Now, no replays, games spread over five days to dilute the impact, under-strength sides not really bothered whether they are still in the cup or not, and footballers masquerading as “comedians” in making the cup draw.

The FA are no longer fit for purpose (if indeed they were ever).

Another kick in the teeth for small clubs thanks to the greed and selfishness of the PL. The FA as usual keel over and give in to these global brands.

Yes, they don't want midweek replays but they've redefined weekends to run from Friday to Wednesday so they can have more televised games.
EFL not best pleased as they were not party to the decision between FA and PL. Why the PL gets to dictate what happens in the two rounds before they enter, I don't know !

We could get Birmingham City or Sheffield Wednesday in the first round next season.

I'm left wondering what the point of the FA is. They are, lest we forget, supposed to be offering national leadership to the game. But in reality they can't even be trusted to defend their flagship competition.

I'd love to see the 3rd round ties chosen for TV coverage next season boycotted. It won't happen, but it would be nice if it did.

Years ago the FA Cup games meant something.
It would be a whole weekend of FA cup related telly starting on the Friday night where commentators would be at the players hotel and then there would be quiz shows between the teams/ supporters etc.
On the Saturday the programme would start at 10 in the morning and follow the team/management throughout the morning and on the way to Wembley - I can remember it all so clearly. The game would be shown on both ITV and BBC and repeated in the evening.
This competition meant something to everyone.

It has been watered down for many years now and this just waters it further. The FA a d Premiership have no idea what a good cup run means to lower leave clubs and as long as they are ok with all there millions then it is sod everyone else.
It’s about time the whole structure of football is looked

The League Cup semi finals are still over two legs right? Make that just 1 game to begin with if the elite are so bothered about too many games.

Shame they haven't reached a deal where say if an EPL club gets drawn away to a L1/L2/ Non-league team from R3 onwards the game gets switched and played at the EPL ground. At least you'd make some money of the gate.

What's our greatest ever FA Cup result that we took to a replay? Liverpool 79, Chelsea 2009, must be a few more...?

The FA are and always been useless.Guttless.
Everybody knows the Prem league runs football, not the F!!k All, FA.
I have thought for many years that same league cup replays..ie..1st league v 1st league...2nd league v 2nd league,3rd league etc should have no replay.Sorted out on the day.
If the cup draw is say..Luton T (1st div) v Leeds (2nd div)...the teams should be asked if they wish for a replay. Maybe both teams dont want one.. most people would not want to watch it anyway.
But say it was a cup draw like we had in 1979, us v Liverpool(the best team in the world at that time)....and we said, if we got one( replay, which we did)we want to play it...then it must be played....the replay question could be sorted out the day after the draw was made.

Here is the FA's 'Professional Game Board', comprising of the following eight people that were consulted on behalf of the entire pyramid and agreed to this ludicrous plan:

Rick Parry (EFL Chairman)
Peter Ridsdale (EFL / Preston North End)
Jez Moxey (EFL / Burton Albion)
Steve Kavanagh (EFL / Millwall)
Rebecca Caplehorn (PL / Tottenham Hostpur)
Peter McCormick (PL Chairman)
Paul Barber (PL / Brighton & Hove Albion)
Cliff Crown (PL / Brentford)

Hopefully some coordinated action across the entire pyramid can get this reversed.

Obviously Brighton,Brentford and Burton forgot where they were playing not so long ago.
