Our head-to-head League record against Barnet is in our favour with 9 wins to their 6 and just 1 draw. Last season, we won well at theirs 3-0 and then they won by the only goal at Roots Hall. The previous season two Matt Dennis goals saw us home at home and towards the end of the season we completed the double with a 3-1 away win. That was almost as good as our best season against them in the League back in 2011/12 when we beat them 3-0 both home and away. Bilel Mohsni scored 4 of those goals, including the hat-trick at home. In the first season back after the war, we beat them 9-2 away in the second round of the Cup, having brushed aside Brush Sports away by 6-1 in round one. Everton, also away, proved stronger opposition in round three and we bowed out with a very creditable 4-2 defeat in front of over 50,000 (so 17 goals in 3 away cup ties!).
Our televised Boxing Day referee will be Kirsty Dowle from Canterbury, just turned 32 who is in her first season of National League refereeing. Her second NL match was our game at Bromley, a 2-1 defeat and a yellow for Mooney and three of theirs. It was suggested by some that she didn't get around the pitch as well as most. Her fourth NL match was at Roots Hall for our 2-0 win against Oxford City when she did okay. There were cautions for Taylor and Husin and one Oxonian.
So far she’s taken charge of 6 National League matches, 3 EFL Trophy matches and a Football League match with these 10 matches producing a low 33 yellows and no red thus far.
A FIFA women's referee who has taken charge of the Women’s Cup Final (2022), women’s international matches and loads of top-level women’s league games.
She worked on the railways as a revenue protection officer for many years before becoming a full-time professional referee. She has a Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology.
She has joined the Elite Referees Development Group for fast tracking through the men’s game. This means she can be allocated to pretty much any game and not be dependent on the normal promotion parameters. Anyone looking at the ERDG group in isolation would be forgiven for thinking that 30% of our referees have a BAME background and of the rest, 30% are women.
Assisting will be Nicholas Cooper from Ipswich and Ryan Head from Norwich (hope they’re on speaking terms). Fourth Official is Charles Martland, from Swiss Cottage, a history teacher at Highgate School.
Seasons Greetings to all.
