First Away Game Seen

Suffolk Shrimper
I was at the game -it was actually December '74 though.
Bob Worthington ( bother of Dave and Frank) and Chris Guthrie got sent off.

Brighton had a right winger who made mince meat out of Worthington who wasnt quick enough to get near the ball. After he had kicked him for about the tenth time off he went !

My first away game was Easter Monday 1966 at Gillingham lost 1-0.... three days after we'd beaten them 5-2 at home.

Good to see nobody has upset anyone, by telling the truth and saying their first away game was last years cup final...............because nobody like glory hunters teehee

Think I must be of the few Shrimpers who saw an away game before a home. Notts County away about 87 under Dick Bate lost 6-2. Not great it must be said.

96, it was. That was one of my first too. My first one though was the 3rd round the year before that at Southampton.

Yes, thats right, my first ever away game saw us conceed a goal after 17 seconds. I would have saved myself much emotional hardship if I'd just taken that a sign that I wasn't destined to watch us play outside of South-East Essex.

With the exception of the 3-0 win at the Valley in 95/96, I've got a pretty poor away record. Won at Barnet too that time Lee Hodges scored a cracking drive, and at Orient when Ben Abbey scored twice and Houghton got slated by the Blue Army. Other than that I think the only other win I've got was at Fulham in the League Cup 1st round when they were in the third division and we were in the first. We won 2-1 but we went out on aggregate so that doesn't count really either.
