My boys first game (competitive game) yesterday and @BoyWonder2 were all your snacks eaten before kick offhe loved it, was up clapping and cheering the goals lost interest towards the end of each half, also played on my phone for chunks of the game but overall said he enjoyed it a lot and left the ground shouting … 5-0 !!! I can’t believe it !!

Key now of course is to maintain his interest. My middle son's game was the Eastwood debut, in his second match he wondered why we were not one up after eight seconds and lost interest. My eldest still goes despite crying when told we were now going to the match for his second visit, I'm not sure whether it was my resilience (or cruelty) or his determination in the end that won through as 25 years on from his 5 year old debut we still always go together.
what a game to pickThis weekends game vs Solihull Moors will be the first game of the season I’m able to attend, but more importantly, I’m going to be taking my eldest son, who is 3, along for his very first football match. I’m sure his mind will change between now and then a million times, but I’ve now booked the tickets.
He got his junior blues hat through, and has been wearing it round the house. When I asked about going, and said he can wear his Southend shirt, he then said “and the hat”, so thank you Junior Blues for that.
We are going to get the train, go to the fish house, pop into the Club shop, do it all properly. Not sure about the pub, don’t think he’ll get served yet.
What advice would you give for bringing a young child along for his first game. Bag full of snacks? Headphones for the noise? A phone with full charge in case the game isn’t brilliant?
I don’t think he’ll sit in his seat properly the whole game, and we may not even make the full 90 minutes at the ground, but hopefully it’s the start of a love affair for him![]()
You looked like you and your son were having an amazing time yesterday. The ear defenders was a piece of good planning just in case, but it was a day of cheers and laughterCouldn’t have picked a better game for Jack’s first ever Southend United match.
He woke up at 5 this morning, and was shattered come kick off. However, we got through the 90 minutes, leaving moments before the full time whistle for a wee.
Ate all the snacks, played on the phone for the majority of the game, and was scared when the first went in, but loved it by number 5.
Think the train was probably still his favourite part of the day, but we got fish and chips, we both got the yellow away shirt, and he said he’d like to come with Daddy again, so I’m taking that as the biggest win of the day.
David Crown took us pitch side, spoke to Cav Miley, however my son is very shy at first, won’t shut up once he is comfortable, but was really shy. Got some pictures down there and then asked if we could play on the pitch, but I explained that they had paid for it then he asked if I could.
My boy (5) seemed to enjoy his first game. Left the ground singing ‘Southend Till I Die’, so I’ll take that. Did caveat it with ‘it won’t ever get better than that son’ on the way our. Great day.
Thanks to @BoyWonder2 for the tickets.

Blue Boar to hear about our bright future with Justin, Ground, Fish Shop and then train home. What a day! Left Shrimperzone logon for him until 13, welcome @Solihullshrimper2
