As Scottish Power have kindly raised their gas prices by 19% and Electricity by 10% my advice is to get on a comparison website and get a fixed tariff. I did this, this morning, saved myself £8 p/a but fixed my prices until 2014. Get on it before they wise up and pull the offers, cos you know the rest of them will follow suit.

Which site you using? I was kindly told by N Power that my Tariff is "only" going up by £3 a month. I've been trying to find a better deal and there's nothing.

The one with the Meerkats. Could be to do with where you live? Maybe be worth paying slightly more in the short term for a fixed contract, because I wouldn't trust any of them further than I could spit a rat.

Yeah, the lovely people at N Power decided half way through my contract that my costs were going to go up. Really not happy with them, but it seems they're cheapest out the bunch.

Might just take to burning books to keep warm.

Not wishing to defend the utility companies too much (most of their service is appalling), but much of this price rise is attributable to government policies on reducing CO2 emissions

I'm buying a Soviet era article warfare suit just like the owl man.

Not sure I believe that. As far as I'm aware government policy hasn't changed lately, so current prices should already reflect policy.

If using these comparison site try to enter actual 'usage' rather than the currently monthly amount. It might take a little time to add up all the kwh values from your old bills but worth it to get a real life quote.

ha, found myself a great tariff about a year or so back that E.On dont offer anymore, and have just compared it to all the best tarrifs currently around, and nothing comes near to it. Best saving i could achive was -£77.84 a year, lol... thats not a saving!
