My first two thoughts were:

1. We've just won a penalty shootout and I've still never seen Hayes save one!

2. Those FGR fans who I could hear singing "1-0 and you ****ed it up" were a bit premature, which is exactly what I shouted at the TV when I heard them.

Haye almost saved a penalty…

They thought it was all over... but it never is with Southend. What a quality bit of play from Jack Bridge for his goal. So pleased for him. And when Gubbins stepped up to take a penalty, how many of us thought WTF..... another good decision by Kev. Everyone at the club deserved tonight's win... players, management, fans and of course COSU. Thank you COSU.

Quick word to the owners, who took this club on debts and all. They have given us a chance of a day like this, when we all thought we wouldn't even have a club at all.

Dusting off the ol laptop, cracking out the wallet and loading up Google Flights as we speak. I think SUFC has taught me more than most in life to simply never ever ever give up. Just mindblowingly emotional and a privilege to support this club. Up the ****ing blues.

I have to say that with 4 minutes of extra time left and 2-1 down I thought for the first time that we'd run our race.

However even after our first penalty had been saved I still felt we would do it. And when the BBC Radio commentator said Hayes was behind the goal supping on his water bottle memories tumbled back to Dan Bentley and his antics in the Wycombe Wanderers shoot out.

At that point in my mind it was never in doubt.

Exactly how I felt.
