Post-Match Thread and Ratings Forest Green 2-2 Southend United..We win on Penalites 4-2

mate you need to watch the DAZN show on Youtube - he tipped us for the final. He also loves Kev
Cheers, I'll give it a look.
Being at Roots Hall meant we only got the in game commentary so didn't hear pre ganme analysis so that's all I had to go on.
I've seen the Gus interview this morning and he does seem genuinely pleased, cuddling Gus etc

What a result!

Some random thoughts: the miracle at Rochdale was only six days ago and it is hardly surprising we seemed not as strong in the second half and extra time but yet we managed to find a way to fight back.

A huge shout of appreciation to Joe Gubbins who would not have received many votes from Shrimperzoners had they been called on nominate the list of penalty takers. He had a challenging season but he will forever be the man in Southend history who buried the third spot kick the day we beat Forest Green away in the play offs to seal a trip to Wembley.

Who could have thought that such a momentous day in Southend history would owe so much to Colchester United. It is beyond dispute that without signing Hopper or securing the loan of Goodliffe we could be in the position we now find ourselves in.

And lest we forget...this was posted on SZ on the 21st of May 2024 probably around the time last night's game started exactly one year earlier:

And one last thing......not that any of us could imagine ourselves supporting Man U, Man City, the Gunners, Spurs or the Hammers and I have no idea how they feel when they win a big game but it is surely impossible for any football supporter of any team to feel any better than we did at the end of the game last night.

I dare not now even think of a week next Sunday...are we really on our way back to the EFL?

PS I will be in Hong Kong when the game is played and will try to persuade Delaney's in Tsim Shat Tsui to show it live (They did when we last played at Wembley and coincidentally I was in HK at that time and they very kindly stayed open until 330 am just so I could watch it).
If anyone else might be interested in watching the game there please dm me. I do not arrive until 30th of May so it is unlikely I can confirm any arrangements until the Saturday.

Damn! I’ll be going the other way, but we met here before

Brilliant. We have achieved so much this season.

Where are the Maher haters now?
To be fair, these last couple of games have been nothing like what's gone before. They've been managed in a very un-Maher like manner where there's been much more urgency about our play and fluidity in our movement. This isn't how Maher has conducted the last 3 years and is what we've all been crying out for. Yesterday, at 1-0 up we were still sending 9 men up when we got a corner - it's like the brakes have been taken off.

They only gripe about anything last night was Aaron Mclean on the commentary and his clear hatred of Southend. He couldn't have had his tongue any further up Cotterills a*se if he tried.
Made me laugh that he said Cotterill had left no stone unturned and planned for every eventuality. Bet his plan didn't include losing 🤣
I thought he was very fair actually.

You are joking right? He backed us to win!

Suspect at the final whistle he was talking to Uber!!

Still buzzing from last night!! Great atmosphere at Roots Hall (although wish I was at the game)!!

We need to sign Goodliffe, he has been superb during last few games.

Love this club so much, best group of players we have had in years!

Also great tactics from Maher during the play offs. 👏 Especially timing of subs.

D1versity video was great - suggest watch the Luke Walsh podcast from game (YouTube)

Cup finals. No point defending for a draw

Thanks for turning up in style both your players and fans. You made it a real game. I hope Wembley is just as thrilling for you
Classy comment, thank you. I'll be really happy if we go up, apart from anything because we won't have to play your lot next season. They're a very good side. I would also back you to get promoted next season should that be the case.

There were a lot of classy things last night too from your lot. From Ryan Inniss shepherding your players away from our fans when you went 2-1 up, to SC going into our changing room after the match to congratulate the team, to Ryan Inniss (again) directing your players away from the Southend team and fans after the final penalty, to SC's and RI's interviews on DAZN. Pleasantly surprising.
