Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark refused to comment today on speculation that he is interested in signing every player in the English league. 'We're an ambitious club, and I'm getting the full backing of the chairman,' was all he would say.
Other football league managers have voiced concern. Leeds manager, Larry Grayson, said that whilst he understood the ambitions of Yorkshire giants the Terriers, he worried about the consequences for smaller clubs, such as Leeds. 'How can we possibly build a viable squad if Huddersfield sign everyone up?' he asked. 'It makes things very difficult... shut that door!'
New chairman Dean Hoyle took charge of Town on June 1st and is said to be about to fund the club to a substantial amount. His Card Factory business is prospering, especially with the introduction of a new Hope You Make it Through the Recession Too card that is selling very well. He told us, 'The wage bill is expected to rise, but that is the price we have to pay for having the best squad... sorry, the only squad, in the football league.'
So put money on Huddersfield for promotion this season. Leeds United remain favourites with the bookies, even if they face the season without a squad, so you might still get a good price.
