Mr Gormless Neville has been appointed as Head Coach of Valencia today, can't say I saw that one coming!

Seems like a brave appointment but I see Valencia's owner has a stake in Salford City FC so obviously a connection there.

I thought he came across really well on the Class of 92 documentary, and it's good to see someone new join the managerial merry go-round so good luck to him.

Probably the most reasonable and knowledgeable pundit who people actually understand and agree with. Also, as MK pointed out, he came across very well on the Class of 92 documentary.

Pleased for him.

Contract until the summer, so would expect him to see this through and then take the England job when Roy walks after a dismal Euros. Went to a Valencia game a few weeks ago, they're pretty strong defensively but lack a threat going forwards, so a right back may not be the obvious choice of manager but he does come across very well so good luck to him.

This is Gary Neville's managerial career according to Wiki. The good thing is he has his coaching licences, but he is seriously lacking in any managerial experience at club level. He may surprise everyone and be a natural at it, but does seem a bit of a risk on Valencia's part. I wonder what their fans think?

Managerial career

Neville, who holds UEFA A and B Coaching Licences, was appointed to the England senior team coaching staff by newly appointed England Manager Roy Hodgson on 14 May 2012 along with Ray Lewington and goalkeeping coach Dave Watson signing a four-year contract with The FA.[SUP][45][/SUP] This saw him on the coaching team for the European Championships in the middle of 2012, and was met with the backing of former England and Manchester United team-mate David Beckham, who called his appointment a "shrewd move".[SUP][46][/SUP] Neville continued to work as assistant manager of England through the 2014 FIFA World Cup and subsequent UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.[SUP][47][/SUP]
Neville was appointed as head coach at Valencia in Spain on 2 December 2015. Neville's brother Phil had previously been caretaker manager and will continue to work with his brother at the club.[SUP][48][/SUP] Neville will retain his England coaching role while at Valencia.[SUP][49][/SUP]

Vote on the local sports newspapers website says 70% support his appointment and 30% don't.

Generally a lot are pleased that it's not another Jorge Mendes appointment, and a lot have written off this season so don't see the harm in it, but there are those who think that as a club they are "too big" to be hiring novices.

Great news for England. The more players and managers who take the opportunity to learn and develop abroad, the better.
