According to Chris Phillips:

One for the future? Hard to see how he's going to break into the team, but could be dynamic and exciting as an option from the bench.

Some (not me I hasten to add) said that about Freddy Eastwood when he first signed!

It certainly seems a bit of a strange signing. We obviously still have room in the wages budget.

Why? This club is clearly, with it's youth policy and Academy ambitions, looking to the future and this signing seems to fit that quite well.

Southend United sign former Watford winger Harry Kyprianou

SOUTHEND United have completed the signing of former Watford winger Harry Kyprianou.

He hasn't been signed for the first team he's been signed for the under 21s and for the future. Don't understand comments on here and twitter about this being a pointless signing and saying 'we need a striker not a winger' do people seriously believe signing an 18 year old is going to break the bank and stop us signing a striker on loan.

He was the guy out on the pitch Saturday warming up before the game and at half time. we all wondered who he was. If Brown has snapped him up, he must have something about him. Just hope he isn't another Mads or Liptak

He is described as a winger but when at Watford he was clearly described as a defender. We need cover at left back and maybe its felt via the U21s he could provide that later in the season as well- in which case a very sensible signing

Makes a change to sign a potentially good prospect. Usually our young stars are snapped up by bigger clubs.

Agreed, I also think its a good signing, if Phil believes he can cover those positions comfortably then I cant see a negative issue about him. Would rather see him training and wearing our club colours than some other club to be honest.
