How did we all do chaps ?
Rochford FC won and are now in a playoff

Liddington's Lads - Rochford FC 2 - 6

7000 spectators had come to Hotspur's Empire this cloudy day. Liddingtons started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Baliño - Boyack, Pittelman, Roudenko - Jawaid, Green, MacIvor, Victor Jaya, Langford - Harris, Alvarado.

Rochford had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Statton - Leckie, Hunter, Brush - Martin, Gorman, Allen, MacEachin, Loftus - den Hollander, Magallanes.

Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Liddingtons. Rochford were mostly trying to use the flanks for their attacks. In the 12th minute the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending and Alfred Gorman put the ball away for 0 - 1. Rochfords Alfred Gorman got himself booked after a foul. Liddingtons seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion about the organization of the team. In the 31st minute Rochford put themselves up 0 - 2 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. Scorer was Filip den Hollander. The structure of the game started to change as Rochford decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Liddingtons´s Emile Langford got himself booked. Alfred Gorman seemed highly inexperienced when in the 44:th minute he was loitering with the ball, allowing Murray MacIvor to intercept and strike 1-2 for Liddingtons. The game had been on for 45 minutes when Mervyn Allen broke through to the right, upping the score to the home crowd´s dismay. Rochford´s were up 1 - 3. Halftime score was 1 - 3. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Rochford, with an impressive 55 percent possession of the ball.

Liddingtons -coach had an extra briefing during the break, and after that his players looked a lot more organized. Somerled MacEachin caused mayhem in his own defence line with some mad dribbles within own penalty zone, but Darren Harriss shot went just outside. The visitors Alfred Gorman took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and central backs in the 54:th minute. 1 - 4 for Rochford. The referee showed Rochfords Tam Martin the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The home crowd was given a certain amount of consolation when Eugenio Alvarado, after a brilliant midfield combination, put the reducing 2 - 4 goal away for Liddingtons. The visitors Somerled MacEachin took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and central backs in the 79:th minute. 2 - 5 for Rochford. Liddingtons seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion about the organization of the team. Some fine manouvering on the left lead to an 83rd minute Rochford goal, making it 2 - 6. Filip den Hollander was noted down as the scorer. Rochford, bringing the final ball possession rate to 74 percent, dominated the battle.

The most dominating Liddingtons player was without a doubt Darren Harris. However, Malcolm Boyack made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Rochford player was without a doubt Gregory Hunter. Alfred Gorman on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 6.

First game for me and I was playing the top team in my division, also the owner of this team is very stroppy and is often found mouthing off at the "clowns" in this division.:D

Krantz Athletic - Hockley Woods  1 - 1

Date:  06/06/2004 at 18.00

Arena:  Palookaville
Crowd:  6293

A scorching day at Palookaville, where 6293 spectators were in place for today´s match. Athletic tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. Lineup: Giltrap - Halflife, Silfwerbo, Mallaghan, Aranguren - Duncan, Samsonov, MacCaul, Martin - Gilleland, Stach.

Hockley had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: MacRobie - Dey, Wilson, Ward, Baldwin - Boddie, Talbot, Barrett, Doyle - Jones, Zabre.

Alfred Zabre of Hockley received a yellow card in the 20:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. After a fine move down the middle John Stach nearly gave the home side one up in the 30:th minute. The finishing shot went just wide, though. Hockley took the lead in the games 30:th minute with 0 - 1 after some elegant plays down the middle. Alfred Zabre was the scorer. The referee showed Athletics Barrett Duncan the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Unsportsmanlike behaviour by Alfred Zabre rendered him his second booking of the match, and Hockley had to finish the game with a reduced squad. The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 1. Athletic held the ball, with a clear 71 percent possession rate.

49 minutes into the game Eddie Gilleland was really close to evening the score out with a dangerous long range shot, but the ball went just wide of the bar. Jeffrey Halflife behaved like an inexperienced youth player in the 60:th minute as he gave the ball away to an opponent. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. 72 minutes into the game John Stach was really close to evening the score out with a dangerous long range shot, but the ball went just wide of the bar. That Eddie Gilleland has the ability of doing what no one expects him to do was shown as he ran over an opposing defender, snatched the ball and passed Stephen Martin who hit it hard into the wide open goal: 1 - 1! Athletic, bringing the final ball possession rate to 73 percent, dominated the battle.

Most important Athletic player was Leonard Giltrap. Anders Silfwerbo was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Hockley player was without a doubt Scottie Baldwin. However, Stephen Boddie made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 1.

Looking forward to next season.

Yep, a cracking end (7-1 away win, admittedly to one of the divisional whipping boys) to a cracking season.

Finished 2nd in the league, supporters club over 1300, already sold out Roots Hall (35,000 capacity) once this season.

Most crucially, just sold my goalie - who popped to "excellent" last week, for £330K. Totally chuffed about that. Will sell second goalie - a "solid" (on Thurs, hopefully!) for c. £100K. That, and £30K prize money, should allow me to fund training one of my players into a coach - who will be a solid coach with solid leadership. That should really allow me to push on next season.

Once I've got my solid coach, it'll then just be a question of training up the remaining goalies in my squad. One should pop to excellent within 4 weeks, I reckon, the other may take a bit longer!

Yup, life is good at Southend United Football Club at the moment!

Lost 4-0 though I forgot to send my orders with two injured players in th eteam which didn't help. Finished 3rd so hopefully can improve on that next season.

Cheers, having got relegated via a play-off in my first season last year, its good to have a good season in my second year.

Bah! Another loss...

AC Fortunta - The Shrimpers  3 - 2

View game:  HT Live
Date:  06/06/2004 at 18.00
MatchID:  16595352
Arena:  Arena of Dreams
Crowd:  10784

10784 spectators arrived at Arena of Dreams, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Fortunta tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Jacobsson - Dunn, Krauter, Arteaga, Maestro - Raposo, Fouré, Vishnevskiy, D'Angelo - Thorstensson, Lipiarski.

Shrimpers had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Clune - Ivy, Dunne, Judge, Mason - Tidmarsh, Anthony, Ankcorn, Sol - Axford, Curtis.

Fortunta broke through to the left in the 12th minute, Daniel Thorstensson firing at an acute angle giving the home side a 1 - 0 lead. Dmitry Vishnevskiy received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly, probably out of lack of experience, in the 31st minute and almost caused an opponent to score. A couple of quick and successful challenges, followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area after 37 minutes might have resulted in another goal for Fortunta. However, Jimmy Clune made a spectacular save. Shrimpers levelled the score in the 39:th minute at 1 - 1, as Evan Dunne struck home after a fine midfield combination, leaving him completely unmarked. 1 - 1 was the half-time score. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Fortunta, with an impressive 61 percent possession of the ball.

Evan Dunne sailed high, high above the opponents as he headed the 1-2 in after a corner kick after 50 minutes of play. After a fatal mistake from the away teams right side defense in the 50:th minute, an alert Daniel Lipiarski bagged the ball, evening the score to 2 - 2. The referee showed Shrimperss Robert Mason the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Fortunta made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in from the right hand side left Alan Dunn completely alone with keeper Jimmy Clune, who made a spectacular block. When Robert Mason made yet another studs first tackle, in the games 68th minute, the referee was obliged to book the Shrimpers player for the second time, sending him off the pitch. 70 minutes into the game Christophe Fouré had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Ramón Ballester Cardell. Some beautiful plays on the left side of the field resulted in a 72nd minute goal by Daniel Thorstensson for Fortunta, putting them ahead 3 - 2. Fortunta held the ball, with a clear 72 percent possession rate.

Most important Fortunta player was Raúl Maestro. Ramón Ballester Cardell on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Shrimpers player was without a doubt Evan Dunne. Ian Tidmarsh was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 2.

I presume the question is: is 10 the highest star rating an individual player can get in a game?

The answer is: no.  I just checked out the Swedish national side... their keeper got 12.5* for his last performance, a 4-0 victory over Malaysia.

As for me, I've not yet had a player who's got over 3.5* in a game... hopefully, however, I'll get my goalie up to 4* at least next season...

Ever thought about playing 3-5-2? You'll go nowhere whilst you're still getting "wretched" ratings for your midfield.

And, by the looks of it, you need to train stamina in the off-season. For midfielders, the most important thing is playmaking, and the next most important thing is stamina...

And, in Hattrick, your midfield is absolutely crucial...

Southend United FC - akasskikers 5 - 0

View game: HT Live
Date: 06/06/2004 at 18.00
MatchID: 16615570
Arena: Roots Hall
Crowd: 23700

23700 spectators arrived at Roots Hall, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Southend started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Loodus - Staples, Lunde, O'Hagan - Herwig, Rothwell, Ruskin, Rorison, MacLean - Panagopoulos, Tiernan.

akasskikers had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Cummings - Tatara, Smith, Harper, Subhedar - Brigham, Leach, Falkiner, Andrews - Mossman, Das.

One of many good passes from Andrew Herwig at the wing was recieved and skillfully taken care of by Christos Panagopoulos, scoring for Southend to 1 - 0. Christos Panagopoulos increased Southends lead to 2 - 0 by putting a header away on a hooked ball from the right. The home side´s Anton Tiernan came close to extending the lead in the 33rd minute. His shot came in off the right hand side but Ruel Cummings managed saving with a fingernail. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, akasskikers´s John Smith got himself booked. A bit later, a magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Southend´s Christos Panagopoulos putting the lead up to 3 - 0. By then Christos Panagopoulos was a three time scorer - a hat trick! By now Southend were drawing the troops back in order to defend their lead. In the 37:th minute Southend put themselves up 4 - 0. The visitors defenders lost the ball to Christos Panagopoulos coming up from the left, who proceeded to cooly round the goaltender and knock the ball home. Kenny Lunde should probably have put his team up another goal in the 37:th minute, but some great goaltending by Ruel Cummings kept the visitors in the game. The teams went for a half-time break at 4 - 0. Southend held the ball, with a clear 83 percent possession rate.

Kenny Lunde almost managed to score another goal for Southend, but his header was tipped to a corner by the visitors goalie. After an industrious effort down the middle Clyde Rorison could have closed the game off in the 48:th minute, but his finishing shot hit the post. In the 58:th minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Scott Staples dashed through, knocking home 5 - 0 for Southend. Southend held the ball, with a clear 79 percent possession rate.

Most important Southend player was Scott Staples. Clyde Rorison was a disappointment, however. akasskikers´s best player was Louis Brigham. John Falkiner was a disappointment, however. The match ends 5 - 0.

If I'm correct you go to Matches, and then the team orders for your next match.

Under a players name you change it from normal to extra .... to put them into the position that you want them to play.

To change from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2, change a defenders' instructions to 'extra inner midfield' on the match orders screen.

Great wingers, mediocre strikers.

As for the midfield question - everyone's answered that: you change one of your central defenders into an extra inner midfield by clicking on that on the drop down menu under his name (that's where you give all of your players special instructions).
