This game holds a special place in my heart.

After being taken to numerous games from about 1980 as a child I hadnt been for a number of years and this was the first game I attended as an "adult" on my own with my mates and really ignited my passion for the club.

Remember it being a lovely Sunny day and being right at the front of the north bank l (no idea why) looking forward to seeing some bloke called Brett Angell play. Cracking match and went to every home game of what was a cracking season (LDV included) bar one versus Swansea I missed due to a friends birthday.

It was bloody cold, and Crewe seemed to be stuck in the 1930's.

I went to 4 of those aways .. the 3-1 in October, the 3-1 where Barney got a brace and Darryl saved two pens, the 2-0 Bill mentions ^^^ and the 1-2 in '87 where we didn't have a tea bar and at half time we were led by stewards through the home end to get our refreshments, they were gobbing at us, throwing coins and hot tea and on the whole just being very unpleasant, oh and they were singing this song in a low moan over and over "We are evil, we are evil" .. all very odd

I hope Crewe still have the away end that was just a cinder bank with a few railway sleepers in random places.

Despite this being a promotion season there were 8 (eight) of us there that evening - as per the Southend Standard report from the next morning which I still have. If only the Echo could be as up to date!

October 1986 was my first league game - pretty sure I was at the away game where Brett Angell got the goals - everyone sounded like a mickey mouser if I remember right !
