Billy Clarke from Ipswich, scored goals for fun on loan at Darlington and joins Northampton this week and whacks a hat trick v crewe today.

He is a class act and has been highly thought of every where he has gone.

Did we try and get him, if so why not, it cant be wages cos northampton cant have as much scope as we have surely, annoys me players like this slip away and we get youth players from other teams. Whats our loan wage limit £70 a week????????????????

There is a special "bubble credit crunch" in Southend don't you know. We don't have the cash for that sort of signing.

Everywhere else in the League one is fine, no creidit crunch at Northampton, or Huddersfield, or Tranmere, or Oldham, or Hartlepool, or Scunthorpe. Most of these clubs have less income than us, but bigger and better squads.

Tilly is looking for a target man anyway, the midfield and defence are fine.

I am slightly surprised we didn't get linked with Billy Clarke, especially as Tilly mentioned his links with Magilton with the Harding signing. He'd have done well for us. A better version of Luke Rodgers, an absolute pain to play against.

We've got Theo now though so lets see how he does. Whether he does well will depend an awful lot on the type of service he's given though.....
