New manager to be appointed sometime soon at Plymouth, may mean an option for Leonard and Benyon to get some game time there on loan as that is where their roots are.
Exeter and Torquay must also be looking to freshen up their squads and may be interested in those two or The frenchman?

Youre assuming those clubs would want a striker who's scored 2 goals in 12 months and an injury-prone utility player?

Not sure how you can make that statement based on the very rare occasions he has featured. Not good enough for Aldershot but good enough for League 1

The new Luke Guttridge?

Guttridge was signed in January from a struggling League Two side and was our best midfielder in the division up the following season.

From the glimpses of Donnelly on the ball I've seen that might not be a bad comparison, although Guttridge played further up the pitch than Donnelly did the other day.

Whilst I wouldn't be turning down the new Luke Guttridge, I think for this season our priority is the new Mark Bentley to put some beef into our midfield now Tam's gone.

To be fair to Leonard, I think most of his injuries have stemmed from having one leg shorter than the other. Gower suffered a similar spate of injuries here, particularly to his lower back, but put them behind him when he started to use custom soles in his boots. Leonard's now doing the same, so should be able to have a similar recovery.

I certainly think Leonard's worth persevering with, as he was certainly one of the most technically impressive footballers we had last season. An extended run in the team and on the training ground could see him develop into a very effective midfielder.

Guttridge had played over 100 games for Cambridge and was highly thought of when we signed him.

When Donnelly came on against Gillingham he had ample time to pick a pass because it was near the end of the match, the Gillingham players had conceded ground and were not closing down to the degree they were in the first half.

In my opinion it would be a mistake to weaken the defensive side of our game by signing a playmaker. We have looked considerably better as a unit with a defensive midfielder in front of the back four. I'm not convinced Laird and Donnelly would compliment each other.

They speak very highly of each other. Laird says he likes the way Donnelly can pick a pass and Donnelly recognizes how Laird can put a foot in and hassle players off the ball.

Have you tracked any of his career or ever seen him play?

Not that I can recall his performance - hence my previous comment.

It would appear that his career highlights consist of 13 appearances in 3 seaons for QPR, a brief substitute appearance for Swansea in the Championship and under 20 games in a relegated from league 1 Wycombe side. I cannot see how this justifies "very good for league 2 AND 1".

I'm not convinced he is the type of player our side shall benefit from - hopefully I shall be proved wrong if he signs.

I think Leonard's attitude and all round ability mean that we could mould him into the player we require. I do worry slightly that he is a bit of a jack of all trades... but Luggy seems to like those kind of players and his versatility could be useful for us in the future.

That's not correct - he actually has one leg longer than the other
