Just got back - Forest

Well, just got back to the hotel with my flight home being tomoro that is...

Ref and linos were an absolute disgrace - nearly everything went against us and it was pretty obvious he couldn't handle having 20 odd thousand forest fans wanting a decision their way...

Good goal from gower cutting in from the left of goal - was hard to see from where we were - but was a fantastic start. The equaliser i thought was very soft - think it was clarkey who had the open man a yard or 2 behind him unmarked - free header that collis couldnt do anything about.

After the sending off we sat back and had one or two nice breaks forward - but nothing more really.

Forest fans were total *****rs - northern c*nts is all i want to say right now before i explode with anger  Most of them went home after going 3-1 up...they think they're gods gift to the football league, and i hope we stuff them when we play them at the hall to knock a bit of sense back in there...

Good atmosphere in the away end - was my first away game and really enjoyed it despite the result. Roll on Rochdale ;)

what happened with leon then?

He was down at the corner flag with one of the forest defenders - didnt get a decent look with the person standing up in front of me just as it happened - but i think leon slid on for the ball and the defender made a meal of it - then there was a big crowd of players at the corner flag pushing and shoving (matt harrold at the heart of it all :D ) - leon straight red and that was the end of us

leon went in for a headbutt. The intent was there so it was the right decision.

Is that a 3 match ban then for Leon?

And will one of the games be the huge cup game this weekend!

Hopefully, it will be the opportunity someone else needs to step to the mark and put in a goal scoring display at centre forward. Perhaps Messrs Foran and McDonald might take the opportunity which surely must come to one of them. We cant keep trying the ever popular Jinja Ninja.

Clarke isn't eligible for the FA Cup under the terms of the loan so the ban will be for the next three league matches which are Cheltenham, Luton & Huddersfield. We need two of the other strikers at the club to really step up now.

Been back a while and Chambers took advantage of the situation. He never got touched and he knows it. The little c*nt gave us a wink a few minutes after the event and started laughing. It was most definetly a crucial decision and like has been said, the intent was there but there was no contact. Im not saying we would have drawn/won had Leon not got himself sent off but it would have at least gave us a fighting chance.

Even at 1-0 up, you just knew the game had goals in it and Forest were always going to score. The timing of their first goal was huge. Had we gone in at 1-0 up at HT, the crowd would have stayed flat and we may have had a fighting chance. But the goal came and although we could/should have scored via Harrold after 1 minute in the 2nd half, Forest were the better team and once that 2nd came it looked like it was going to be a struggle to get back into. The sending off certainly didn't help and their 3rd sealed the deal. In Agogo and Tyson, they have 2 top quality strikers. Now Leon is out, its time to give MacDougal a chance. The lad has been patient and IMO he deserves a chance. Would be a bit harsh if Tilly did get someone in from the loan market, but i probably wouldn't blame him if he did.

Im not going to do player ratings but no-one either stood out, or had a stinker. Just alot of average performances against a team who are better than us.

My ratings:

Collis 7, did well with a lot of crosses, tipping a particulary dangerous one over the bar. not at fault for any of the goals and made a lot of saves that kept the score down in the last 10 mins or so.

Hunt 6, drifted in a lot leaving Moussa exposed and isolated, but did well on occasions to break up the play.
P Clarke 8, despite us conceding 4 the centre backs today I thought were superb, Clarke being the pick of the bunch. Loads of tackles, headers, blocks and was generally dominant.
Barrett 7.5, similar to Clarke, won more in the air than he lost and made an impressive surging run forward in the second half.
Hammell 7, very good set piece delivery, on another day we would have scored a few goals from Hammell's corners. Defended quite well also.

Moussa 5.5, clearly not a winger. Had some very good touches though, particulary a run down the right to hold off 3 Forest players before winning a free kick. Needs to toughen up a bit IMO.
McCormack 6, an all action performance, won and kept the ball well.
Bailey 6, much like McCormack. Never stopped chasing and used the ball well.
Gower 7, our most constant threat going forward and scored a great goal to get us off to a perfect start. Spread the play well and took on defenders well.

Clarke 6, would have been a 7 but for the sending off, which was deserved despite Chambers making a meal of it. Showed great strength and direct running with the ball. had a had in our goal. Should have shot more though.
Harrold 6.5, clearly tired toward the end and was subbed for Hooper. Flocked the ball on to Gower for the goal, chased a lot but didnt really do much else.

Subs:
Francis and Hooper both 5. Didnt really have time to impact the game as we were already 3-1 down and looking right out of it. Hooper struggled playing upfront on his own.

Ref and linos were poor. No choice with the red card but was very pedantic and blew up for almost anything. At least one Forest goal looked off side as well from where I was sitting.

I actualy thought Peter Clarke had a mare. Made a massive mistake for the 2nd goal (which was offside anyway).

Thought the whole side were pretty poor to be honest apart from 4 players (Collis, McCormack, Gower and Leon Clarke - even though he deserved the red).

Oh well, best to forget this one very quickly and move on imo.

Also thought Forest were a brilliant side by the way. Always closed us down, never gave us any space. Used the pitch very well, made space for themselves and played with a quick tempo. Fancy them to be in the top 2 come the end of the season.

Are you sure? Even if Sheff Weds don't want him to play in the FA Cup that is an agreement between them & Southend. I would have thought it will still count as a game as far as the FA & FL are concerned.

IMHO thought P Clarke was our best defender again today and was left totally exposed for theor 2nd goal as Barrett and Hammell were caught totally out of position upfield.

Well I can't comment as I wasn't there and didn't even listen due to prior engagements, but I'm worried that Leon is the Emperor's New Clothes and not the answers to our quite frankly, dismal forward line up.

Unfortunately we can't beat those teams that will be up there at the end of the season (Forest/Leeds/Tranmere) and I think any hope of a quick promotion back to the CCC is misguided :(

No quite. Just because he isn't available because of a deal between us and Wednesday then doesn't change the fact that he is banned for three matches. It's no different than being suspended and injured at the same time.

That is assuming that we don't appeal, and that any ban is imposed before the Rochdale game.

But we managed it two seasons ago. It can be done...
