Quote[/b] (shrimperman @ April 18 2006,10:24)]I dont get it, if we are 33's against winning it then why are Col******r 14's but Hudders and Brentford 33's? Surely if we are 33/1 against winning it then Col******r should be at least 33 to win like Brentford and Hudders. Surely they have as much chance of winning it as we have of losing it? Or am I just having a bad morning?
We're 33-1
on. Col U are 33-1
against.
You are having a bad morning!
But Col******r are 14/1. Surely there odds to win it should be at least greater than ours to lose it? I realise that our odds are 'on' and they are 'against', im just a wee confused. Do you get what my brain is trying to say!?!
Basically it is to make the 'over-round' book. The bookmakers will set the odds justified in their favour, usually with a 10% over-round, that is, they should make a 10% profit on any book.
In this case:
Southend 1/33 the over-round is 97.09%
Col Ewe 14/1 the over-round 6.67%
Brentford 33/1 the over-rond 2.94%
Huddersfield 33/1 the over-round 2.94
Giving the bookmaker, in this case an over-round pricing strategy of 109.64
Therefore, a profit margin of 9.64% on this book.
Hope that's cleared it up.
