Maddie - the plot thickens

Wrong timming, but Kate McCann, - would you?
terrible timing

back to a serious topic, i cant see how people can go around saying I think its the parents or its not the parents, how can anyone be sure or even have any way of predicting the situation. Matt keeps refering to statistics but in all cases there anomalies, why can't this be one? also it is not being suggested that they did it on purpose. What grounds have people got to say they killed their children just because they have a hunch or they dont show much emotion. someone is taken as a suspect at we all become detectives. i heard on bbc news that being suspects mean that they can give more information than they can in their current situation, of course i dont know if this is true. all of this speculation over the family is overshadowing the real issue a young girl has been murdered or is still out there and needs to be found.

Could be a lots to it of course - but I think its great that for 4 months they have vowed never to leave Portugal without Maddie - then as soon as they get named as suspects that literally get out of dodge asap?!

Very weird...

And I kept forgetting to say Matt, that whilst your stats about maternal child killing proves it is VERY rare, the suggestion is accidental death - not cold murder.

Whilst 'accidentally' killing your child through too much medecine, sedatives etc is at best, irresponsible, (and its hardly as if the McCanns are going to win "Most Responsible Parents In The World" award), it doesnt show a pre-calculated malice.

I would have hoped that Leicestershire Social Services will be doing their job this morning. They should be tin-banging on the McCann's front door, and take the other two kids into temporary care until this is cleaned up, one way or another. Neglect - simple as. If I'd left my kids on theifr own I would expect to be so dealt with.

DNA matched to Maddie found in the McCanns hire car AND boot...

Either way, this story is getting more and more bizarre!

Where do you stand in light of this new evidence Matt? Reckon its a set-up by the Porto Police?

Gi9ven the latest twists and turns NOW is the time for Leics Social Services to step in. I am not being overly dramatic here, but these parents ARE suspects in their daughters's 'death', and as such, their twins are at the very least at risk, and should be taken into care.

I can only foresee one scenario here, and that is the McCann's going on one of those Catholic guilt trips, and resultantly take the lives of the twins, and their own lives - given that they will have easy access to the drugs to do so.

Apparently they gave their kids Calpol. If that is irresponsible, then just about every parent in this country is too.

Catholics aren't big on suicide.

One thing that I don't believe I've seen mentioned is the scale to which posters believe human beings can act to. After seeing Ian Huntley's interview before being named as a suspect even, I feel as though my faith in general standards of human beings has been diminished. If one (or both) parent(s) is found guilty of this, it will lower me yet more diminished.

I find it facinating and frightening that at least one person knows the exact story of what happened but it may never come to light.

Just one more thing, a polite request, could we use a little less large and bold fonts because aside from that I'm quite discreet when on here!

1. No, you can rule out a set-up. The Portuguese police may have ballsed things up, but they're not malicious.

2. Maddie's DNA on their parents' things... well, duh! We've all hugged a teddy bear at some point in our lives and smelt either the smell of a parent or a child on it, and been greatly reassured by it. Well, put yourself in Kate McCann's shoes. Her little daughter has gone missing. She would have been clinging with grim hope to every toy, every blanket, every last piece of clothing with the scent of Maddie on it... it was the only trace of her daughter's existence she had to hold on to. Those items would inevitably have Maddie's hair and DNA cells on it. Everyone says "DNA" and automatically assumes the police have found a pool of blood; indeed, I note the Portuguese police are already downplaying the importance of the DNA evidence.

I still have no idea what happened to that young child, but I cannot believe for a second that her mother is responsible for it.

You are being over dramatic.

1. They havent been charged with any crime.

2. If they are guilty and did accidentally kill the child that doesnt mean they are a danger to their other children.

How right would it be for the two poor kids to be taken into care for months then for the parents to be cleared ?

Matt

Me neither.

If it were me and I accidentally killed one of my kids Id rather spend 5 years in jail knowing she was laid to rest properly than trying to hide it.

'IF' they did it just living with the secret for the rest of their lives would be far worst than a manslaughter charge or whatever they would get.

However who can even imagine what you would do in that situation.

Yes suppose that would be a bit harsh on the other hand maybe they could go into care just when the parents are out for the night.

I think C C Csiders was referring to them leaving their kids unattended while they went out for a meal more than what crime they may or may not have committed.

i think taking the 'remaining' kids away would serve no purpose to the kids at all.

They have already lost there sister this summer, and the support of the parents, whatever they may or may not have done, is crucial to them at the moment. Until it is proven that Maddies parents were directly to do with Maddies death (which a] i cant believe, and b] she may not even be dead) the best place these children can be is with there mum and dad.

For christ sake, one lesson that they have learnt more than anything out of this is not to leave there children unattended of a night!

From that Sky report:

It follows last night's revelation by Sky News that detectives had found DNA evidence that Madeleine's body had been in the boot of the car hire by Mr and Mrs McCann five weeks after their daughter's disappearance.

Her body? So we are dealing with a murder investigation, then - and not a missing person inquiry...

This gets weirder by the day.

Matt
