Made to measure shirts.

Mad Cyril

The Fresh Prince of Belfairs⭐⭐🦐
I have a lot of trouble buying work shirts. To borrow a phrase from Quadrophenia most shirts with a 17.5" neck are ****ing rent-a-tents and I am reasonably slim in an extra-medium kind of fashion.

I am considering getting some shirts made to measure and there a few online companies offering this service.

Has anyone used such a service? If so do you have any recommendations?

Have you tried a 'Fully Fitted' shirt? Maybe take a trip to a TM Lewin or Charles Tyrwhitt store and have one of the staff recommend a size for you would be a good idea.

Lewins shirts have detoriated in quality over all in recent years and I've noticed the elbows go really quickly, although they are a good fit for me. 17.5" neck, 36" sleeve.

Trywhitt shirts are also a nice fit, more hardwearing than Lewins but the material isn't as nice. Roderick Charles are pretty good in my opinion.

I've had a couple of suits from these people and they've been great, but I've not tried their shirts: http://www.asuitthatfits.com/shop/index.php

If you use them, let me know how you get on.

Why do none of these places do extra long sleeves? ****ing tards not accommodating for the 21st century. **** them and **** the tube as well.

I always use www.tailorstore.co.uk for my shirts as they give you a completely bespoke shirt, made to measure, with contrast fabrics, choice of cuffs, buttons. The quality is outstanding but get samples of the fabrics first so you know what you'll be getting.

Advice - choose one of the cheapest fabrics first to make sure you've got your measurements right, then add/subtract for the next one you buy. If you don't get it quite right, they're generally okay about getting the shirt redone.

You'll probably only pay 20% more than for a similar quality shirt on the high street but once you've got a custom made shirt, you'll never look back.

Looks like they have an offer on at the moment for a lower cost first go at 30 quid which you'd pay upwards of 100 for on the high street. Just check those fabrics first.

Whilst I am not cheap £108 for a work shirt is a little on the steep side.

Good advice. I bought a shirt in a hurry a few weeks ago without trying it on. Next morning I got dressed quickly and went to work.

It was only when I got to work that I realised the shirt had a pearlescent/iridescent finish the fabric and looked like it was part of a figure skating/strictly come dancing outfit.

By 9am I had suffered enough abuse and had to step out to buy a replacement so I didn't look like the ****ing mambo king.

Cyril - get yourself out to somewhere like Thailand for a long weekend.

For about £800 you'll be able to get yourself flights, a couple of suits and half a dozen or so shirts made to measure. It works out about the same as off-the-peg stuff here but you get a weekend in Bangkok out of it. Choose your material carefully (if not they'll try and palm you off with crappy material) and they'll last ages - the shirts I got made out there lasted two or three times longer than the ones I bought in the UK. Shirts you should be ok with one fitting, but with suits you'll want at least two and preferably three.
