Former Shrimpers midfielder Mark Beard, who left the club to join Kingstonian last summer, has been appointed as director of youth at Spanish third division side San Pedro.
Beard will also play for the Marbella side, who already have English duo Graham Roberts and Vinny Samways on the coaching staff

"It's the chance of a lifetime. If I hadn't seen their facilities first hand I might not have taken it," he told BBC Essex.

"There's a big British population in the area and we're trying to tap into that.

"I'm going to be in charge of 19 youth sides and also playing. I can't wait to get stuck in."

No wind-up. Reported by www.thisisessex.com today.

U.D San Pedro finished in the relegation zone of Group Nine of the Spanish Third Division last season. But they may win a reprieve as Granada, saddled with a multi-million Euro debt, may well be excluded next season, meaning that San Pedro could be "promoted" back into the Third Division.
