Post-Match Thread and Ratings Match report: Exeter City 0-0 Southend United

This Phil Brown love-in is all well and good but we need goals and we need wins. Not much, if anything, has changed since Molesley went.

To be fair we do look like we have a lot more attacking intent and playing with a lot more purpose and speed.
Forgetting embargoes and the like you can’t the ignore the fact MM had 3/4 of a season and Brown has had one full week of training and only 2 matches.

Oxley 9
Bwomono 7
Hobson 8
White 7
Hart 7
Ferguson 7
Demetriou 8
Walsh 8
Holmes 9 MOTM
RHF 8
Akinola 5

Goodship 6
Olayinka 6
McCormack 5

A spirited performance today, lots of energy especially in the first half and start of the second. Ferguson should have hit the target with a free header and RHF was unlucky hitting the bar. We tired and Exeter came back into it. A shame that Holmes had to be subbed, but he looked all in and was holding his back. In the end we were clinging on. One point sadly not enough for our survival.

Sounded a good performance on the radio and going by the reviews here. Normally, thos is a decent point away, but if Colchester beat Walsall and they are 2-1 up as i type, this middle of the table weekly performances will not keep us up. We need top of the table form to stay up now.
Ending last season with a team of kids, staying too long on an embargo with the same kids, its ruined us. Not the kids fault, they should be eased into the team gently not brought in en masse.
Only wins will do and we dont have the strikers to do it.
It's becoming depressingly real now.

Yet my point still stands.

I felt that I was watching my team once again, was shouting at the screen and the time flew by. After 55 years of support the last few months have been the worst ever to watch - I did not feel any connection to most of the players or the manager but today felt different - sadly, it is probably too late to save our league status.

Well I see a far more entertaining game of football than the ****e Molesley served up.
Another week and we would have scored 3.....Molesley could only dream about three attempts on goal.... blimey he was bad and you fell for it!

Correct, they didn’t win but had a bloody good go.....best game of the season by far, Molesley was a clueless non League puppet....so happy he has gone but unfortunately he has dragged us down to his non league level!

I thought we were as usual just crap at finishing. Overall a very entertaining game and we for once looked like a team. Just a shame most of the players want a second touch before having a shot but I won't complain about the effort today, we were the better team.

The set up is completely different from MM's and we played at pace, It just goes to show I guess we should of got rid of him earlier...I still think we are doomed as we have just left it to late.

MOTM Ricky Holmes.

Over to you guys.
Ricky Holmes was fantastic, couldn’t get a start with Mr. Bean.
As for Oxley, he was back to his embarrassing worst. There two commentators couldn’t stop going on about how he had zero confidence and was terrible for crosses.....he gives the defence the willy’s.
Made a fantastic save as always but defence needs a dominant keeper behind them, not a six foot 3 mouse.....gotta go!

I fell for nothing. Unlike you I don't see things in shades of black and white and I don't have agendas and stick to them obsessively.

On another week we could have scored 3, but we didn't. Last week we could have scored a couple, but we didn't. Conversely, Crawley and Exeter could have scored a couple each, but they didn't.

End of the day, we continue to be incapable of scoring while Col Ewe and Grimsby have picked up wins and scored 2 goals each.

They have depth of strikers to choose from, MM failure to get couples of strikers in January really cost him.

Well it’s taken Phil Brown a week and a half to play the best football of a whole season with the same players at his disposal.
Which front line would you rather?
Brown......Holmes, Hackett F, Walsh and Akinola.
Or M.M......Acquah and Akinola?
Brown would have comfortably scored goals all season and made the playoffs.
Mark Molesley has failed miserably in the worst League I have ever seen!

PB or any other manger with any credibility would not have come here in Semptember.
