Would be a great addition. An awesome left foot, his crossing from a stand still position is one of the best I've seen for a long time and also we saw just how much he can change a game when he came on in the second leg.

Again as well, I love the fact that its a player the team already know, therefore continuing the tight knit changing room that Brown currently has !! If we could get Piggot as well, even for a season , would be chuffed. Add a nippy direct striker to those two as well and I'd be delighted with the options that you can get from Corr, Piggott and "one other".

If we end up with McLaughlin then someone needs to work on his fitness level and defence, because at the moment he offers next to nothing defensively and is in my opinion a luxury player. Get him working on learning how to tackle successfully and then you will have a very good player.

Yep, I agree. I would say, though, that he was initially bought in to give us width and pace up front in the promotion run up. I doubt if his defensive qualities were considered at the time.

McLaughlin and Pigott are both players who have potential but plenty of room for improvement. Both have the raw ability to be very good, but both need to get into games more in my opinion. They can go missing for long spells. Wouldn't be unhappy with signing either though to be honest.

If he had more pace he would be electric for us , I think he maybe the most gifted player we have and very comfortable on the ball , great dead ball delivery but I think he needs to beat his player more in the games I have seen him play

Would be happy if we signed him. He was quiet to start off with but has improved and played a big part in the play-offs. He's a proper left-winger too which are quite hard to find these days.

Would be pleased with him signing. Let's hope they can get the deal to go through

Is that what McLaughlin is on at Forest? If so, he isn't going to come here, he would have to take a massive pay cut

Matt Mills

Whilst he hasn't been outstanding for us this season, there's enough there to think McLaughlin be a good addition to the squad. Players like him and Pigott, and arguably Cassidy too are the sorts of players we need to be looking at to improve the squad next year, those that have talent but need to improve with age.

There aren't going to be many ready made League 1 standard players available, and any that are available aren't going to be queuing up to sign for Southend in reality.

It makes me laugh the people posting on here that we need to sign a pacey 20 or 30 goal a season striker...Just how many of those do they think are going to be available? If we want to improve we need to gamble on younger players with scope to improve, loanees and perhaps a more senior player on the way down in the Goater (or Michael Ricketts...ahem) mould.

What we should not do IMO is just sign a load of John Spicers and Gary Deegans (with all due respect to the beard) because they have "League 1 experience".

I think McLaughlin is a potential star in the making. Only glimpses so far but with a preseason under his belt with us then I would not be surprised to see him really shine.

I think back to the first half when he won the free kick for Corrs 'goal'. I loved the nutmeg and then the cut across Hayes. This type of wing play excites me. Added to the fact his crossing ability, for crossing on the run, still ball and dead ball (ie free kick / corner) is the best I have seen as Roots Hall for some time

Not too bad at diving headers either. Him and Worrall attacking the far posts will be a big plus for our attacking play.

Best crossing ability I've seen since Ryan Hall to be honest, but with a much better attitude.
