Second year scholar who joined the remnants of the academy in the summer has apparently been offered a pro deal

Going from match reports he seemed the pick of the summer additions. Played this season and last for Heybridge in Ismithian North before joining Romford(?), presumably on a dual contract basis again.

In previous years scholars would usually be offered a third year before a pro contract (Charlie Kelman was a rare exception IIRC) but without the protection of EFL academy status we’ll probably see fewer third year scholarships handed out.

Congrats Mikey!

ps you should probably recharge your battery

Remember seeing this guy before a few home games earlier in the season.

One of the staff had a stop watch and had him running back and forth, across the pitch in front of the West Stand, we were under an embargo at the time, so I did wonder who he was.

Good news.

Can’t confess to having seen him play, or know much about him. Perhaps @Exiled Shrimper can help here.
Yeah, he’s been the pick of the second-years this season. He’s a hard-working midfielder who has an eye for a defence-splitting pass and has scored a few decent goals for the U19s this season.

Netted a cracker at Oxford City in January and then this one against Boreham Wood last month which was the culmination of a very well-worked set-piece move:
He links play well in midfield and doesn’t go hiding when things aren’t going so well. Would describe him as similar to Oli Coker in style and the position in midfield that he’s most adept in.

Spent the first half of this season on a dual-registration with Heybridge Swifts in the Isthmian League North Division and is now with Romford in the Essex Senior League on a similar arrangement, which means he has a chance to appear at Wembley in The FA Vase (they face Lincoln United in the semi-finals).

Great news. Hopefully this will mean that the off mentioned B team will start to take shape as well as a few more year groups in the Centre of Excellence/Academy/Yoofs.

I don't understand all the "ins & outs" of acadamies v reserve teams but I would have thought having a second set of XI players that can play games (against any opposition) would be beneficial so that our subs for matches are fit & match sharp.

Good luck M Faulkner.
