The referee for tomorrow's cut price bonanza is Graham Scott from Abingdon in Oxfordshire. He is in his 4th season as a Football League referee and makes his second visit to Roots Hall. (It would be his third, but the second didn't happen due to the appropriately Antarctic weather at the time.)
That previous visit was the home JPT defeat by Orient in 2008/9. He has since done an away match at Gillingham - the Easter defeat in 2009/10 .... so we're due for a win with him. Each of those matches saw 5 yellow cards shown.
He is getting good appointments including televised games, but his card count has rocketed this season with 56 yellows and 5 reds from just 13 matches. Certainly when I've seen him he has seemed a little over eager to reach for his cards, but his decisions were more right than wrong.
Assistants are two Roots Hall debutants, Adam Crysell from Braintree, a second year "lino", and Craig Hicks from Sutton in Surrey in his first season (he works for the Surrey FA, so he'll probably get on well). Fourth official is regular visitor and decent non-league referee, Barry Holderness making the extremely short journey from Wickford. The assessor for this match is Mike Thorpe, ex Ipswich based ex-League referee.
