Nathan Bishop?

With the evidence that is out in the public domain, Grobellar is clearly guilty. But with a clever defence team, it's their job to twist things to make reasonable doubt. Something they are extremely good at. It's the main reason O.J. Simpson got found not guilty the first trial. So it also doesn't mean they are not guilty londonblue.

You seem to have a very warped view of our justice system.

No, just realistic. Those that can afford a top defence team seem to get found not guilty. Most of the jury in the Michael Jackson trial said years later that they knew he was guilty. It's not a level playing field, so doesn't give a true result. It's a bit like Rochdale playing Liverpool. The guilty poor are more likely to admit guilt for a reduced sentence. The guilty rich are more likely to plead innocence and let their team provide reasonable doubt to get them off.

Put it this way. I know a few criminal defense lawyers who would argue with you. You have a very warped view of justice...I'm not going to get into other cases, they're irrelevant, especially when they're not from this country. Our legal system is pretty damn good if you ask me.

Again, he wasn't found guilty of a crime even though he was tried twice. He lost a libel case, which is completely different. Whatever our opinions of the man and even what went on, we weren't on the jury, and probably don't know the as much as they did. Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly like the guy, but I think it's important to recognise no-one has found him guilty of anything.

I don't have an opinion on the Grobbelaar case(s) - I had completely forgotten about it until it was mentioned. My comment was purely on your assumption that if a jury cleared someone on a criminal case that a jury would rule out truth as a defence in a libel case of someone who accused them of doing it. It can be entirely consistent to find someone not guilty of a crime whilst accepting truth as a defence to accusing someone of committing that crime.

But anyway, let's get back to discussing goalkeeping.

Grobbealaar wasn't particularly tall - about 6 foot and yet dominated his area.

Grobbelar (or however it's spelt) oozed eccentricity and confidence in goal. A trait amongst better keepers I feel.
I quite liked Mel capletons attitude.
To be fair you have to have a screw loose or at least a bit wobbly to be a keeper, to go in where it hurts and keep doing so. Timid shy retiring types need not apply. Though it is possible to be a madman on the pitch but the opposite off it. Ox is a lovely calm guy but look what happened when he put his boxing gloves on by mistake in a game near the corner flag.
Schizos make the best keepers ('oh no they dont', 'oh yes they do')

Reminds me of Andy Goram (Rangers goalkeeper) who was diagnosed as schizophrenic, which lead to the chant, "Two Andy Gorams, there's only two Andy Gorams!"

Homo sapiens have been growing taller generation after generation and footballers seem to be getting bigger even quicker.

6ft - 40 years ago was still a relative giant. Hansen was 6ft 2 - a giant.

Steve Death who played in goal for Reading 471 times was only 5ft 7 tall, and Les Green who played for Derby under Clough and Taylor 5ft 8. Both playing in the 70s. They wouldn’t be playing today.

You could count players who were over 6ft 2 on one hand 40/50 years ago. Big Jack Charlton wasn’t even 6ft 2.

Players are taller, fitter, quicker - the pitch and goals have stayed the same size. Ball players are disappearing rapidly.

Depends if you’ve got good handling, nothing sticks to the Ox. Best handling I ever see was Flavs....obvious limitations height wise but spoke to Jim Stannard who trained him and Speroni for Palace and he said he had the hands of a Premiership keeper but obviously not big enough.
What about adam federici? His allround game was class! Best distribution out of any keeper we have had.
