Nelson Mandela Dead

Whatever your view of him, you can't deny that he did a fair amount of good in his life.

At least that country had a bit of normality in the mid-90's, ****ed before and now!

This.

As usual, people are taking polarised views which is frankly ridiculous for a man like Mandela - a man guilty of unquestionably terrible things (albeit in an open war against a brutal regime) who then went on to inspire a nation to tackle its ills.

He was no saint for sure but his legacy needs to be seen in balance.

You know what? When i first heard the news my first thought was that Nissan Main Dealer Joke from 1995

Does that sit on the mantlepeice next to the one of Thatcher and Pinochet?

If you mean the Thatcher who had bigger balls than any man to stand up to terrorism and the Pinochet who was our sole supporter in the South Americas during The Falklands War then yes, that's where it sits. Better that than an convicted terrorist, an IRA Brigade Commander and Sinn Fien apologist for a Anti British terrorist organization.

Thatcher who thought that Apartheid was ok and did what she could to support it?

I'm not here to defend the IRA and the size of Thatcher's balls can probably wait for another time but a very basic search on Pinochet will tell you that he is not the kind of person that the leader of a democracy should be associated with. Mandela was convicted by a racist undemocratic state for actions intended to create a democratic state. Why would Thatcher need the support of Pinochet? Surely the rest of the world would ask 'why is the leader of the UK hanging out with that ****?'
