There is a new version of this site available to us with lots of new features. We would never consider changing things until the summer recess football wise. I would just like your thoughts as to whether you think we keep things as they stand or go for the new upgraded site.

John.

I know nothing about this software but here is a posting on the vB5 forum....

Here is my take on this...

I have owned a VB since way back when I think it was 1.8 when I started in 2001...
I bought lifetime licenses and thought wow that will be great I will never have to do anything more than pay for support annually...

Well first off they only supported you if you continued to pay annual support.
Second off when they released a new platform and all of your prior licenses went to hell in a hand basket and you were like everyone else right back at square one..

So I bought the 4.0 suite it was a challenge to learn the CMS system and I still am learning it...lol
I bought the Vb5 not realizing that it was not even stable yet. I have it up and running but here are some common issues and reasons why I am still running Vb4.2 patch 3

First the Software is to me a simple stripped down version of VB4 with a couple of other twist. I will be compatible with HTML5 which is what I pod I phone and I pads use.
There is no longer CMS there is site building software built in. So now you have to learn the system all over again

All of your current Modifications that run in VB4 will have to be recoded to work for VB5...That is going to take a long time.
It as mentioned is no where close to Gold release with more bugs than a Shack without power, in the middle of the Florida Everglades...

I am also concerned that the updates for 4 have only progressed to 4.2 in two years since it was released in 2010 which is not heading for 3 yrs...
It is a pretty good platform but does have support issues and also additional software like VB social has to be tweaked in to work...

Sounds like it has issues...this was posted in Jan 2013

So my question is the same for anything to do with software update....is the old one broke that you need to fix it?

To be fair vB 4 still has issues, a lot of these problems are caused by ad-on's to sites that have bugs in the programmes that effect the running of the initial software...We will not do anything that would harm this site in anyway but for the record we have about 12 Ad-ons/Mods we use on here that are not vB recommended ( we take the chance) but that is how all vB sites build differently.

Nope it isn't broke at all, but we do like to keep up with advances in technology and to offer users the very best possible from their experience on here.

Have a competition with SUFC. When the first digger is on site at FF start rolling out the new version and see who completes first!!

If it's been properly tested, we should upgrade. Those who don't embrace what's new get stuck in the dark ages.

As this season's over, should we now take the opportunity to try out a few systems, so come the close season we can rebuild, and hit the ground running next season?

can't think where the idea came from
