SUFC: The Future Next season

The other thing to consider when signing players is KM's tactics. Yesterday I cannot remember one single pass from midfield (the sort of defence splitting pass) into the channel for any of the fowards to run on to. Tactics (most of the season) have revolved around getting the ball wide and then crossing to relatively midget target men in comparison to the defenders that they are up against.
Come on, it's been 24 hours since our incredible but gut-wrenching day out and you're already on at Maher about tactics. Jeez.

Our substitutions are predictable and every game around 64 minutes it's Bonne for Hopper and then either Bridge for Parillion or Walker for Kendall and vice versa
It's predictable because it worked. We accumulated 41 points in the second half of the season once this current squad was assembled and fully fit. Why would you change what wasn't broken?

And Coker to Bonne

I'm defo going to the Borehamwood game, not sure how they will get all the Shrimpers in that ground though, past experiences anyone?

Have we actually dominated any games this this season or won them comfortably.
Think we are far away from being in a Barnet position .
Does the current business model financially allow the type of signings needed, otherwise a much longer stint in this awful league is likely.
I think you are closer than you believe. We had 3 years to get it done, and you've entered the room in a big way. Next season is going to be one of genuine hope for all Shrimpers..... Recruitment MUST be bang on during the next Window..... The foundations are 100 percent in place... Step by Step

Because 82 points would have put us in the playoffs - we need to try and win it - hard though that it.

Fans thinking that the money made from the play offs will suddenly mean a big cash injection into the playing squad need a little dose of reality.

Whilst the money from the play offs is no doubt very welcome and much needed, in reality, this will probably only cover the wages, overheads etc for the next 3 months whilst the club won’t be receiving any gate money (A very nice bonus of course)

COSU have had to spend many more millions than they originally anticipated on debts that the Martins had hidden from them during the sale of the club.

On top of this, they have paid out for the new training ground facilities, and are now going to need to try and find millions of pounds of their own money for a new East stand on top of other ground improvements.

In short, we simply won’t be able to compete financially on transfers and budgets with the likes of FGR, York and possibly Carlisle. Our recruitment is going to need to be very clever and shrewd. Luckily for us, we have one of the best guys in the lower leagues to help achieve this goal in John Still.
Along with his team of scouts scattered around the country. I’m confident they will find us the right players needed.

In the mean time, we as fans are going to need to show a little bit of patience in letting the dust settle after yesterday’s big disappointment and keep faith that the management and co will assemble the squad needed for next season to hopefully take us out of this tin pot league!
I didn't mention transfers in my post, I was just seeing if as a fan base if we understand the problems financially maybe there is something we can do collectively either by raising funds or raising the price of a season card!
Pre Season we should be looking for obviously fitness levels but for a club like us we should be looking for full houses for pre season games and the only way you can do that is getting a big club that is going to guarantee playing there big players or playing a side with a massive following ie Rangers & Celtic. Going on a tour doesn't make financial sense with Hotels Flights etc etc we should be saving money for anything else!

I think 3 new forwards is a must, to replace all of those strikers out of contract, Kev doesn't rate Wood or Waldron and Bonne has lost all confidence in front of goal, yesterday he looked shot to pieces, its as if nerves got the better of him.
Cav unfortunately seems incapable of making a tackle without getting booked, that's not great when you are seeing him as a tough tackler.
We need a creative playmaker, Cliff Parrilion has the making of one, but like KAF only seems to make space for themselves.
Strikers I would have should be goal scorers, a big lump and someone who feeds off scraps.
I member the Goat doing the knock downs to set up others.
Defence, we need a couple of lumps, who can defend old style, clear the ball when they come in, with some ability on the ball, we seem to rely of Hopper to come back and do that. Our defenders should be able to cope.

The best thing between now and next season is that players WILL want to join us. In some respects we are competing slightly above level terms though we won’t break the books to get names in.

Based on the second half of the season I don’t think we need wholesale changes. CB, CF are the first two on my list. If we can strengthen L and R WB that would be great. Without Gus’s goals for me (possibly controversial) I believe we can do better. We shouldn’t expect him to be so prolific next season for starters.

Assuming none of the regulars moves on I’d be happy with 5-6 signings (plus future prospects). If a player leaves then replace preferably with an upgrade.

I am not expecting wholesale changes to the squad this summer. Most of the squad are under contract anyway, so if we're going to keep the same size squad then we don't have much to play with. I believe the only out of contract players are Wood, Waldron, Ralph and Bonne (I believe Bridge has already triggered a 1-year contract extension).
So has Ralph.

Exactly. A year ago we wanted Ollie Pearce, but the Rat did for that. If we’d got him (as I believe we would if it were happening right now), imagine where we’d be. If Kev, Still and the gang are that on the nose this time around, we could be flying.

It’s a nice ide

I can see where you’re coming from but it wouldn’t work. If you raise season ticket prices then you’ll lose sales. Some fans may be happy to pay extra but equally there are plenty that won’t pay the extra so all you’re be doing is robing Peter to pay Paul.

Pre Season friendlies very rarely attract large crowds, no matter who we’re playing.
For one, it’s high season for holidaymakers, so many are usually away and secondly the bigger teams will usually field second string teams so whilst Rangers may bring a large following to RH I very much doubt you’ll attract a large Southend home crowd in July for a second string Scottish Premier team!

I agree about the cost of pre season tours, which can be costly, especially for clubs like ours where every penny counts. However, equally they can be worth the added expense, as it’s great for team bonding, especially for integrating the new players into the group. You can never underestimate a good close-knit team spirit when aiming for promotion!
