I think there is little chance of that at the moment.
I work for a bank, and 'redundancy' is the latest buzz-word rather than headhunting. We're bracing ourselvses for no rises, and bonuses have been a media myth for a few years now.
We're all under immense pressure, work loads have gone through the roof from those colleagues who've lost their jobs, and the level of sicknotes resulting from stress is increasing.
Good luck to the staff at Northern Rock. They deserve it. If we've had it bad, they've had it worse. Small recompense for the idiots at executive and board level who have got everyone in this mess in the first place.
No, but you wouldn't be employed at all without the Government's money!
Nothing like looking at the bigger picture.the fact that the fat cats arent getting the handout makes no difference. This is a payment that the taxpayer is not obliged to make! Who do the government think they are giving our money away like this? Times are tough, sure but these NR employees are lucky to have jobs and the fact that they are doing a good job turning it around should be neither here nor there. That should go without saying.
As i say (to quote tilly) ordinary Joe Bloggs gets no handouts for doing their job from the Government so why should they???
But surely the government money is our money, if the government did not take away 40% of my wages I would be happy not to have a 'big bonus'. Come on do people really think £2000 is a big bonus??
Remember they will still be taxed on this figure so the take home amount will be considerably less.
Are we not giving more and more people a bigger handout from the goverment by having them claim social security.
Nothing like looking at the bigger picture.
I suppose Police, Fire Service, Civil Servants and anyone else with a remote link to the Government should take a 50% pay cut too?
Some people get handouts from the government for doing sod all.
As you say the Governments money is our money, why should we give these people handouts for just doing their jobs? I'm getting no benefit from them doing their job, why should i contribute to any bonus?
As for them being taxed, so what? we get a 25% refund of our money?? These are the low paid remember and not the fat cats!
Also, why would we be giving them Social Security? They have jobs which we have already paid to secure!
I would rather us cut back on non obligatory bonuses to people that are paid a wage to do their job. I also think we should be doing more to get these lazy work shy people back into work, or earn their benefits. So you know the full details on this deal do you? So you know that the Government is not earning anything out of this deal?? I would rather contribute to someone who is doing their job well enough to deserve a bonus then someone who is sitting in a boozer all day on social handouts, at least the worker will contribute more back into the country's economy.
YES, as it is the Tax Payer's money, i am. These £1500 net bonuses could help to keep a ward open at a hospital. And you point is ? You are quibbling over £1500 if in the 25% bracket.
I am not getting a bonus because my whole company is not getting one (like a lot of companies i might add). We recognize that we are lucky to have jobs and if and when in the future we get bonuses they are treated as just that.I suggest you read again or maybe this highlights why you are not getting a bonus this year!
I was merely making the point that this bonus is a payment that the Government chose to pay and had no right to pay! If they hadn't paid it, these people would still have had jobs, the government bail out already secured that!I was merely raising the point that more people are becoming unemployed and thus taking more government money then the bonus pool for these workers.
